Hey this is a forum on Volvo and advising a fella on his first car la!! Why go talk about your first car!? It's way off topic!
BTW, my first car is a Datsun 120Y, bought it for RM 10k and later sold it for RM 10k, and you can imagine the resale value of such power brand. Superb handling and gear shift! I still dream about it today.
Hahaha.. sorry, it's nostalgic.
Anyway, my 2 cent: RM 2k is kinda heavy even for new B-segment, eg Fiesta and Mazda2, even with the free servicing. My advice: get a 206 package, if still available. RM 400+/month for 12 years. Cheapest and most affordable car in the market.
A new City assuming 9 year loan will take you downy by at least RM 1k, excluding petrol and servicing which is every 5k km, unlike others which is 10k. Be careful dude.

Of course now I drive an XC60 D5 as my primary car (got it in 2009) but still have a 10 year old Astra (Holden) as my 2nd car (which was the 2nd car I bought). In between that and the volvo, I had a Camry..

Althought we seemed to be sharing our first car, we are actually trying to show our friend here how "lok" was our first ownership... just to get a perspective.
My Datsun was a 10-year old car. It doubles as a track car coz it slides real good, especially when its loaded. The air-con has squirrel smell.
Now I drive a TT, my wife's a Lexus. Lives in a bangalow with lift.
So bro, stay low. You'll get there sooner or later.
And don't trust people who like to brag. HAHAHAH

S40 2.4i is a good car. However, these are the considerations to maintain a S40 yearly..
-r/tax : 800
-Basic service : 2,000 ( Run 25,000km per year, engine oil change every 7k km. Plus i buy my own parts n mechanic to fix it. Sending to FA will cost much more)
-Wear n tear parts : 2,000
-tyre : 1,000
Insurance : 2,000
Total : 7,800 per year = 650 per month.
You need to spend atleast 650 per month excluding car installment and your other expenses... And you need to keep yr fingers crossed not to face major service and other major part change.
Taking up an used honda city or vios would be a wiser choice. Good luck on yr car search..
