Hi I have a ‘97 Ulysse manual. Last month, I planned to drive my car to
Ipoh. Before reaching the Jalan Duta toll. I felt that the clutch was
something wrong, when I press the clutch pedal , I can heard a click
sound. I thought it was a small problem. However, just about 200m before
the toll, the clutch malfunction. I cannot engaged the gear and I was at
the winding down slope to the toll. I have to stop at the road side and
called the tow-truck. This was the first time in ten year of ownership,
my Ulysse has to tow away. After checking by my mechanic, the clutch
cable was loosen and have to replace a new one with cost RM 400+. I have
to advise all the Ulysse owner with manual transmission. Check your
clutch regularly, to avoid disaster happen.

Hi mb339a,
The Clutch mulfunction is when you step on the clutch pedal, the gear can
shift or go neutral, the cable cannot control the clutch plate and engage
the gear. Therefore it is best to change the cable after some time or
check the condition.

Yes, experienced the same thing when I owned the Citroen Evasion...cable
malfunctioned causing clutch damage...was advised by my mechanic to change
cable when change the clutch.

However, sold the the machine coz the clutch pedal was just too hard and
was horrible if stuck in jam...got the Bravo 1.4Tjet instead...but miss the
roominess of the MPV

Maybe will get one(MPV) sometime later...

weecp, my ulysse is also 10+ yrs old. I find that whenever I force to
engage the gear it crunch but if I push in the gear slowly, no crunch. Do
you think it is because of my clutch cable ? TQ

Hi Mao, I don't think is clutch cable problem. May be it is gearbox or
gearbox oil problem. This has to be comfirmed by the expert. My Ulysse
when started cold in the morning, the gear is not easy to engage, but
after a few KM, it will be all right.

Crunching gears on specific gears can usually be attributed to worn syncros. They can be changed if you are willing to find i willing mech.
