Does the car manual say you must use semi/full synthetic oil or is this another of your urban legend stuff?

no offense, but this information is from UMW Toyota based on their own Toyota Motor Oil product.

the end decision still lies with the car owner. if you want to use the mineral based oil, no one can stop you from doing so. its your car and your money.

alldisc (same alldisc from rmc and mbc ?), you work at the SC or something ? tongue.gif

Do you know if we can bring our own engine oil when doing services instead of toyota's engine oil ? the SC's engine oil is pretty damn expensive.

another innova user here. Been using the manual version for almost 3 years. No problems mechanically, except that the HU recently stopped playing CDs. I've been thinking of replacing it anyway - IMO the HU in my kancil sounds better (it outlasted the innova's, for sure) than the one that came with the earlier 2.0G innova. rolleyes.gif

oh, I had mysterious squeaks a while back but that was because the hinge of the engine hood was dry. A little grease and all is well again (really glad it wasn't suspension related tongue.gif ).

Also another complaint I have is the poor paint quality. Watermarks appear rather easily on the charchoal black innovas, esp under the handles. I notice this is a problem on the hilux and fortuners as well. Even perodua have better paint finish ! smile_angry.gif

Power and space-wise, I'm quite happy with it. It's not an estima or an odyssey for sure, but for the money, it has the best combination of power, FC, and space, esp in the $100k and under price bracket.

yes Ten, i have contacts with Toyota's SC.

No, UMW does not allow outside EO because that will affect the 10,000km warranty given after each service. No other workshops can give such guarantee.

Some more, I do not think that TGMO is that expensive really.

1. 4L pack of mineral based EO = RM61.90

2. 4L pack of semi synthetic EO (10W-40) = RM81.50

3. 4L pack of full synthetic EO (5W-40) = RM185.00

oh. Thanks. The same 10,000km warranty also applies to the mineral oil ? What does it cover, actually ?

I've seen many cars pass 200,000km with no discernible wear on cylinder bores and piston rings (no smoke on downshifts, increased FC, etc), even when running on mineral oil.

I'm also a fairly conservative driver, so I doubt I'd benefit from the 10,000km warranty as much as I would from changing the oil more often with higher quality oil at a lower cost.

care to share price of similar EO supplied by other lubricant companies?

1. 4L pack of mineral based EO TGMO RM61.90. Shell? Mobil? Caltex? Petronas?

2. 4L pack of semi synthetic EO TGMO(10W-40) RM81.50. Shell? Mobil? Caltex? Petronas?

3. 4L pack of full synthetic EO TGMO(5W-40) RM185.00. Shell? Mobil? Caltex? Petronas?

Not comparing oils bro, just wanted to know what it covers (coz the manual is rather vague, even after reading it a few times [maybe i'm just stupid ?]).

But nevermind. I'm gonna bite the bullet and void the warranty anyway and hope nothing bad happens. tongue.gif

UMWT service centres and its dealers provide 10,000km against any poor workmanship and/or defective material as a result after the last service done with them.

one example i can give to you is oil filter pressure relieve valve jammed - causing insufficient oil supply/circulation and causing engine seizure. the cost for overhaul will be borne by UMWT SC and/or its dealers subject to approval upon investigation.

of coz it never happened but still UMWT wants to give that peace of mind for the customers.

i hope nothing bad happens to you too tongue.gif

yes, but UMWT didnt shout out loud regarding this warranty. coz in reality its not worth it. but this is sumthing that UMWT commits to each of its loyal customer to prevent them from leaving for cheaper workshops.

My Innova is still under warranty and so all my servicing is done at UMWT centre. It may cost a little more but having the peace of mind is priceless. Just in case, and you never know.
