FC!!!! Everone's favourite topic. Any 2.4 is better than a 2.0 when it comes to pulling the same weight. The camry have better FC, i dunno why honestly - comparing a 2.0 camry vs 2.0 nf. Perhaps this is one area koreans need to work on. I do a 7.5km/l on nf and almost a 9km/l on camry (tested on 90% urban traffic). Cannot say much abt 2.4 accord as I do not have the unfortunate task of topping up. Both camry and nf have variable valve timing.. so why the heck does it drink so much?

On the FC, I believe Korean is still trailing in this area. I know of someone with Camry 2.0E is getting ~ 11.5km/l for ~ 80% highway drive, and another accord 2.4 is averaging ~ 11.5 km/l as well.

My NF 2.0 is averaging ~ 10km/l for my daily routine (~ 75% highway and 25% city drive), slight improvement from ~ 9.5km/l to ~ 9.8 km/l over the last 35k km in ~ 22.5 months). However my 100% highway FC is not any better than my normal FC, I hardly get pass 11km/l for pure highway (and that's with more load/passengers).

Kah Bintang factory fitted a microcompressor to the Sonata, I'm wondering / thinking should I remove it since lots of people said it is a piece of junk! Any comments?

htan I assume you are driving a ckd sonata. In ur 2yrs of ownership, any issues that you encountered ? Do you bring the casr back to sime/kah for service ? Whats the maintenance cost like ?

yes, mine is CKD. No issues so far - have not replaced any parts except those wear & tear items. Had a couple of issues on the reverse sensors installed by KB - 2 of the 4 sensors are dead (1 always trigger and 1 never trigger), didn't replace them yet since I've installed a reverse camera about 6 months ago; and the reverse sensor display module was loose and causing some noise when driving through rough/uneven roads - fixed during service.

I still go back to KB for service since the car is still under warranty (3 years) and I'm quite satisfy with their service and charges so far - I service my car at KB Sg Pinang, Penang.

Normal service charges as below:
- washer : around RM1.50, can't remember exact amount, but less than RM2
- Castrol Magnetic Semi-sync Lubricant oil : RM106.25 or RM85 (if I use the leftover from previous service), need 4.3 lit
- Oil filter : RM18
- Engine cleaner, around RM22
- Labor charge : RM10

It came to about RM154 for my 35k service that I just did this morning. I typically decline the oil treatment (another RM 20+), thinking of decline the engine cleaner as well, but since the labor charge is only RM10 for normal service and I'm quite happy with the service provided, so just accept the use of engine cleaner.

Ask SIME / Hyunmal SC as well, seem like their charges is higher. they typically use Shell Helix Plus (~RM95) and it doesn't come is 1 liter packing. Labor charge quoted is RM70.

Was thinking of bringing my own lubricant for the service, but seem like spare part shops are charging more than KB for the Castrol Magnetic (> RM90), so decided to stay with KB until 3 years warranty period is ended.

Test drove the 2.0 and the sales guy showed me a couple of shiny metal cylinders size of a drink can saying that those are power booster/fuel efficiency thing. I find that strange and the sales guy could not tell me what it is. Its not found in the 2.4 so not sure what that thing is. He said its to provide better power so that 2.0 car won't b underpower. 1 is fitted on the firewall and the other next to the engine. Anyone who just bought a 2.0 ? Mind to share ?

My SA told me that's the microcompressor - mine has 1 on the firewall, didn't pay attention to the one next to engine.

Talked to the service adviser this morning, they need to add a hose if want to bypass it, not sure if there will be any different in power / FC, so still trying to find more info before making the decision.

Yikes, the NF oil filter is only RM16 at SD/Hyumal.

Yeah if the labour charge is 70 then its still cheaper at KB. Cars can be serviced at both KB & Sime or dealers to ensure warranty ?

This discussion is moot since SD has taken over KB.

It is RM18 from the Hyumal that I asked, same as KB.

Microcompressor? I'll go check and see. Did not noticed it. Could be just a bunch of capacitors.

I can see that many sonata nf are actually found in the state of Penang more than in Klang Valley. Why har? Legacy of LBS?
I would have quoted someone smart here and make me look smart but not as much smarter as the smart one I quoted from. I'm smart, yeah!
