Cap48,
Not yet, still waiting for the rear lamps (bottom) and I'll be buying new
(~400 a piece, maybe slightly less) as there's nothing from the chop shops
in the north. Even in KL, there's one side only, so might as well get both
of them new. The engine parts and major mechanicals are completed. Apart
from ARB, I need to change one ball joint too. Still trying out the ABS
after the idiot lamp has been put in. It goes off and on, so the mechanic
will service the modulator and see, since all the fluid is new, it'll be
quick fast and easy for him to troubleshoot.

Yeah, after this course of service, most things would last me for some
time. However the buck doens't stop here, I still have the tyres, alarm,
front tinting to worry about. Next round would be the disc brake pads and
maybe the rotor if they're too thin.

Oh, has anyone fix any bulbs for the left cluster on the meter ? This side
has the SRS, Low Fuel Warning, Wiper Fluid Low, Damaged Lamp. The right
side cluster can be accessed (albeit very tough to screw in the bulbs). Do
we have to remove the whole meter to put these Left side bulbs in ?

Have not replaced any bulbs on the dashboard as yet, so, can't really say
for sure whether the meter need to be removed or not. If I remember
correctly & my observation the last time the dash in my 850GLT was
removed, this may be necessary. These bulbs tend to last a long time
(touch wood) as evident in my 850GLT. None of the bulbs in the dash have
been replaced despite it being more than 10 years old.Smile Do let us know
you impressions on the T5 after you have had a bit of time with it.

wahhh....so many replies to glock19. I've been quite busy the past 1 week
so I've not had much time to look in on the forum.

Marlin, no secret weapons-lah... just not enough time. Don't worry if any
secret weapon plans become available I'll inform you.

glock, the bulbs are definetly pain in the a** to replace but if I am not
mistaken the whole meter needs to be removed to replace the bulbs on the
left. but make sure the battery is diconnected before pulling off any
wires from the meters.

btw, did u say u will call up the chop shop guys? i cannot remember as i
was in the middle of something last week.

cap48,
Some of the bulbs only light for a moment only before startup but if
there's an unresolved problem, the light should be lighted indefinitely.
The other lights (in the meter) which lasted you so long is because you
don't drive too often in the evening or early mornings, right ?

kenari1,
Yes, I'm supposed to call the half-cut shops but since they don't have
(NEW WORLD), I just didn't reply. If they have, should get the R-type
where all signals (top pillar) is also white colour but I need the bottom
part, which is the same. Yeah, the pain, the pain -> to my back and
fingers only when trying to fix the bulbs. I gave up after one hour trying
and this is for the right side cluster. I don't see any way other than to
remove the meter for the left side.

glock19, you'll be surprised that I did more than 5 years (of the past 7/8
years) of night driving but not so much since I retired. My 240 s/wagon is
more than 20 years old & I don't remember replacing any of the dash/meter
bulbs either. That's why I said the the bulbs are long lasting. Anyway,
this is my personal experience but others may not fair the same. Cheers &
happy motoring in your new T5.Big Smile

Cap48,
Sorry to have misjudged you (and your Volvo). I was at the mechanic's
place and we took the 850 dash apart. Must be careful not to break any
plastic or my plastic is koyak. Anyway they don't accept credit card, so
all these is CASH term Crying BTW replaced quite a number of bulbs for the
idiot lamps.

Gotta budget my spendings for the next month to recover abit but I just
booked another 245 year 1984 verbally. He's a FA serviceman and he is the
one who told me about the 200 half price offer. Now I have to get a GLT
to be in the same league as you.Big Smile

But seriously, I'm not competing against nobody, just that the 245 would
not even dent my wallet and it's good to drive the brick around because
it's so exclusive. I heard there's less than 10 units sold in Penang
during it's heydays.

Glock19,

Actually i am a bit envy of your budget allocated for upgrading the car
to its excellent conditions.

After paying cash for the upgrade to 850GLE and a overspend/under budget
on the house renovation, i have to hold on to those non essential and
costly maintenance item of the repair works. Besides that my wife is
giving birth to our first baby soon. I think i can only afford do such a
major maintenance job after chinese new year.

Wah! glock19. Looks like the favour of the month is on the station wagons!
The 240 (or 245) station wagon is a good car with lots of space (even more
than the T5s). Mine has given me excellent service for the past 20 years &
no way am I gonna part with it. These cars are rarely offerred for sale &
I think you're lucky to have been offerred one. Congratulations!

Hey, there's no competition going on & you need not get a GLT to be on the
same league with me. Owning a Volvo is enough.Big Smile. BTW, just changed the
ignition switch on my 240 as the key refuses to turn on ocassions & I
don't want the steering lock locking up at the most inconvenient time.
Cost more than RM1k for the set (ignition switch & the two front door
locks) as they are not sold separately. Cheers & have a good time with the
245.

Just got the BILL for the repairs : Four thousand four ringgit. The list
is too long to list, so I`ll just put the total here. Next stop : Tyre
shop, was quoted RM350 for the Michelin (Thailand) which looks okay.
There is also some noise from the back panel beneath the glass, will get
it done by end of the week. Oh, my ABS is shot, so that`ll be on my
shopping list and also a deterent for me to drive fast in the rain.

gfc,
When doing house renovation, sure blown budget one, with the VOs and
certain last minute changes here and there. The contractors are always
waiting for this time to sharpen their knives. However your priorities
should be on the up and coming baby. Apart from the delivery itself, you
have to hire the "full-moon" maid. Don`t forget our nasi kunyit eh ? Less
celebrate at Street Formula. You`ll surely get my Ang Pow one. Take care
of your missus too as she might have some depression (pre and post
delivery syndrome).

cap48,
The 245 don`t need steering lock now, just remove the ignition switch,
change to a normal switch (put on the dash) and put a huge thumbbutton
switch that can take the starting amp (like the old mini). That`ll save
you some money... But who am I talking to ? A retired man who can pay
cash for a T5...wah lau.Big Smile

Shhhh! Not so loud, glock19. Buying the T5 was at a pinch. BTW, who would
want to lend money to someone who's without income? Those who do risk not
seeing their money again.Wink
