Thanks Richard V40.
This car is actually in Federal Auto Penang. Althought it's used in KL,
it's lady doctor owner orders her new S60 here so the FA salesman is
helping to push the car. The salesman said if the car was registered in
Penang, it would have cost RM100K or more.
What actually is the problem with the suspension? When I test drove, the
suspension seemed fine with just some minor irritating noise. If I am
just a layman driver and can live with that, do you think it's worth to
save that couple of thousand on the suspension? I don't think the owner
is willing to spend anymore money on the car. Maybe some reduction in the
asking price is possible.
FA only has the service record until 65,000km. After that the car was
serviced by outside experts. When do we change the time belt and how much
does it cost? Any other areas that I need to pay more attention?
By the way, this car is actually for my 64 year old retired father to
pick up some aunties. Suitable or not?
Thanks again.

wks2,
The car is left in FA Penang and all deals are done through an FA
salesman. He does take a commission but I am not sure if he is able to
add some more to the asking price and disclose less to the owner.
I expect to meet the owner when the deal is done. So I suppose the deal
should be quite transparent, right?
Thanks.

Karboo
As my advise before the asking price are abit on high side, as FA
saleman are making about rm 5- 10K on the owner selling price.
for the irritating sound from suspension it can be from the Lower Arm
Bushes or suspension top mounting or bearing or the brake dics or
tyre...... so better ask other workshop than FA ( as FA would't tell you
the truth if they want to sell the car ) to check . for my case i have
problem on the suspension mounting, bearing, bush... can't
remember all , that i had to go in workshop 4 -5 time in 12 months
time.
if i'm you , i will go around to look for those direct selling from owners
as you can get quite good condition S40 in the marker with cheaper
price now ( direct owner ,rm 80 - 85K for 2001) see yesterday Star
paper .
Good luck

Karboo,
Agree with Ricahrd. Dont show you're deperate for it. For the irritating
sound from suspension, you need to spend arond RM1K to change the adsorber
mountings.

Richard v40 & wks2,
Noted all your advices. Thanks.
I already made an offer price of RM87K. If the car is mine, it will be
mine. If not, then the search goes on.
Yesterday I saw a white coloured KL registered S40 on Penang Bridge.
Looks great but I doubt it's original paint. Friend of yours?
