in my humblest opinion. the s40 should be put next to the likes of the
3series,c class. Prior to buying, these were the cars i test drove and
compared each other to.

Agree with phat7's comment. Aside from the japanese marque, the conti
models that are sold here which are in the same segment as the s40 are:
- 3series, c-class, audi a4, saab 9-3, alfa 156, vw jetta, skoda octavia,
peogeot 407, citroen c5 (that's very much i can think of for now)...

just to give a perspective -the s80 is used as a presidential car in
sweeden. The new s80 i believe would go head on with the new 5/7 series
and e/s class. If car manufacurers were to build cars to go head on with
other marques would simply defy the whole point of marketing. The
decision of purchase would come from many factors not just because it
equals another make.

if you have read the car magazine from Europe, you should see normally
the comparison for 3 series and c-class for volvo marque is S60..this is
volvo strategy, they always come out with something in between the class
of BM and Merc..to me S40 is between Japanese Executive Sedan and 3series
or c-class..S60 is in between 3 series and 5 series or C-class and E-
class..in fact, i remember the same discussion before in the forum..s60
is definately not in the class of 5 series or E-class..coz s60 sure lose
to these 2 in overall..same to S40..I think we should look
into "between"...just my 2 cents and reading from magazine..

sorry im not here to debate or what but i just came across this article
says
"Volvo say it has been designed to battle with the Audi A3 and BMW 1-
Series, but the saloon bodystyle pushes it into the compact executive
sector - competing with the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4 and... the Volvo S60!"
not my words i got it from autoexpress. read more you`ll see s60
competing with 3-series and s80 with e-class, the 5 and a6.

i'm really sorry for YOU my friend. Kindly be more specific on the
article in auto express. The review was based on a 2000cc s40 against
other marques of the same capacity. You claims are baseless as you have
taken out of context the main body of argument.Apple to apple my friend.

ermm.. nope.. the article is based on s40 1.6s. as you can read they are
refering saloon so that it pushes to 3s n Cs. not talking about CCs.
correct me if im wrong. if you talk abt CC to CC then s40 2.4 go ahead
with E240? no even 1-series have 3000cc.

hi kenlairk,
Is difficult to answer since two car with same power... Go through a few
replied on here....
Yes, 1st are they willing to pay the summonse?
Yes, must find two driver like Mika Hakkinen Driving Skill.
I suggest to be compare life on safety... Volvo has "Volvo For Life"
that's stand for life is the 1st priority an accident... If two
challenged the most important to think your life when your saw your
speeding about 200KM/H... I guess Accord accident at 200KM/H will be 99%
dead on the spot... And New S40 accident at 200KM/H dead is 50/50 and
Injured will 99%...
I hope this is your answer you want it...
