Got my V40 for 2 years now. Would like to share my experince with the
forumers.
Decided on volvo v40 for its safety features, good 2.0T engine and
elegant look. After 2 years and 22k on odometer I still think V40 is a
good car. However it is the built quality that really disappoint me.
This is a list of problems that I have faced:
1. wiper judder. This was noticed when I collected the car. I was told
this would disappeared after a while. Few months passed by and the
problem persisted. Got the wiper changed in federal auto. Still same. Got
the windscreen polished but of no help. Sent the car to Federal Auto
again and got the windscreen polished with some special agent. Condition
improved but recured after 2 months. Complaint to federal auto again
today. I was told by the manager that he will e-mail his superior and get
me the answer by 4 days. Will post his reply in this forum. What puzzle
me is why federal auto can't fix this problem for some my occasions? Is
it a difficult and rare problem? Is there no solution or the guys in
federal auto just not smart enough to solve it?
2. still on wiper but the rear one. The wiper won't wipe the central
seperior portion of rear wind screen. Got It adjusted in federal auto but
still the same. I was told they can't fix it. Is it true????
3. The central aircond blower was blowing at inconsistant rate. Got it
changed. Problem solved.
4. The hinges on the doors got rusted. Oh my god, volvo car got rusted at
one year!!!!!!. Got it replaced. Problem solved.
5. Power window on driver site got jammed. Got it fixed but same thing
recurred after feew weeks. Sent to federal auto again. Got the whole
panel changed. Problem partly solved cos there is still noise when
winding down the window.
6.Sent the car in for service today. Complaint that there is noise coming
for tyres when taking a corner. I was told that the caliper on the rear
brake pad got jammed causing the rear brake pad excessively worn. This is
not cover under warranty becaused it is part of wear and tear. Is it
true?????? if it is wear and tear why it only happen on one site?????
caliper got jammed is part of wear and tear?????? Can someone enlighten
me on this???

After this list of problms, I am questioning myself weather the decision
to buy a volvo is a wise decision. :(
If volvo want to place themself in luxury segment of automobile industry,
I think they have to improve there built quality. The list of problems
sould familiar to those who own a proton before?? Power window, rusted
parts, remember ?

Sorry to heard about your problem here...and understand your car are
brought it new from FA with the on going valid warranty. since FA can't
help much on your problems .....why not give Swedish Marque ( SM )
a chance . with doing so would't void your manufacture warranty as it
is Volvo Car Malaysia who give the warranty to your car not FA .

The Front Wiper problem is the known design failure on the wind
srceen it self as the off shape of the curvature glass that can't be
stick the wiper propertly. most VOCM X40 members have this
problem ... had changed my to Silicone wiper and it really help abit on
the judder that now only happen when the windscreen are drying.

The Rear Wiper had changed to 17" from original 15" so it wiped
almost from left to right and also the centre portion as well.

The others problems seen like it had rectified by FA, and for caliper
issue ...i think i agree to FA as this is parts of problem on the worm
brake pad that caused the caliper jammed but why one sided only
...this really need to check carefully...so suggest go SM. as this week
( 10 Dec to 18 Dec ) they having free 20 points checking from their
volvo sifu from Singapore to any Volvo car ( old or new, and wherther
brought it from the them or not are all welcome ) just call they toll free
tel no for appointment - 1800-88-2222

We r listening bro. We are facing the same problems you raised with
regards to the wipers too and most of us just barely managed to live with
it. A ridiculous but popular statement that they like to comment
is 'problem cannot solve'. Such good car with all these nonsense and
support crews. And the worse thing is, they r the experts and best people
to maintain your Volvo! Sigh.....

Have not heard from Nicholas yet. Reminded the reception but he never
returned call. Probably he is on holiday mode. sigh
Never mind, since federal auto can't help, are there sifu in the forum
that may be able to help?
Thses are methods I have given a try: polish the windscreen, change the
wiper, clean the wind screen with soap, wipe the wind screen with news
paper.
Any more suggestion?

from new to 2 years with this problem! been given a mark from zero to 10,
my personal opinion would give a 8(10 been super). Ok, wiper as what
forummers says a defect, guess its something we need to find ways to go
around it(increase the size). what i did to judder wiper is when washing
car is to apply some "son of a gun" or armour all into it. of course, it
won't last me a year but regular washing, just have to apply a layer and
it do wonders. just my opinion.

If a car with rusted door hinges within a year can score 8/10, I know
where volvo stands.Blush
