I have a 1992 2 dr landcruiser. Can someone kindly give me some advice on
upgrading the suspension. Basically I need to know what to get, brands,
and where. The suspension has not been touched before (to my
knowledge!).The upgrade is more aimed for off-road stuff.

I would prefer brands like KONI.

for your help andadvice I salute you.

Just curious what kind of off road u do?
U carry heavy loads such as camping gear and the whole family and more
stuff on the roof rack and towing a trailer?
Or u just want lift so that u can fit 35inch tyres and better suspension
travel/ articulation?
These are some of the questions a offroad suspension specialist will ask
u so that he can recommend a suspension thats heavy duty, medium duty,
light duty, so on and so forth. So feedback is the most important thing u
need to give in order to recommend a good setup. The brand name should be
given 2nd consideration but to be safe stick to the reputable ones.

There's so many choices these days but here are some of the popular
brands available these days locally.
Complete suspension system:
Old Man Emu
Tough Dog
TJM

Absorbers:
Rancho
Koni

My opinion is that the Tough Dog might be a good compromise. Notice the
distrubutor that sells it has a reasonable package that comes with a
4inch lift springs that fits 35inch nicely, dampers, extended sway/
antiroll bar mountings and steering damper.
And I'm sure u get plenty of feedback as there are many Land Cruiser
owners out there with this setup.

Thanks for the reply BabyGod.

What I really want is something that would be a good all round
compromise. Something that will be tough in some extreme conditions and
yet nice to handle on the open road. I already have 33" tyres on it.

As to the type of offroad, I wont be carrying the whole family and I
doubt I would be towing any heavy loads. If we go inside we usually just
take a backpack as if we were walkers, with enough to last a coupla days.

The Tough Dog sounds ok and I already favoured the koni/Rancho.

So whats the estimated cost for this and wheres the best place to have it
done? I have seen that 4WD place in Sungai Besi, but I have not been
there yet, nor heard any good or bad reports.

Just curious what made u decide on Koni and Ranchos?
Also u're reffering to their springs or to their absorbers?
I notice that in the market place these days not many ppl go for Konis
and Ranchos. Also i noticed that from outerlimits4x4.com.au forums, the
Ranchos didnt seems to suit coil sprung vehicles well.

Anyway why i mentioned Tough Dog as i've recieved quite a good feedback
from a number of Land Cruiser II drivers who are using it. The shop that
sells it is in Sunway. Quality wise they seem good and when u compare
with the competition i noticed that Tough Dog runs the biggest shaft and
piston bore in the market.

In Sungai Besi there are actually a few off road shops. Namely 4wd
equipment which is the ARB and Old Man Emu distributor here. Service wise
should be alright but being a big big shop, they tend to cater more for
big utilities, government contracts but they still do deal with retail.
In fact there is another shop further up the road caled FORE that makes
bull bars and deals in The Ultimate Suspension.

Still doesnt suit your requireiment i'm sure u can still customised your
dampers. Get local companies like Titan to build one with u and external
reservior.

Just my 2cents eh and i'm not a surporter of any brands. And incase if u
are wondering what suspension i'm running, i'm using The Ultimate
Suspension leaf springs and DeCarbon shocks.

yo...braders!

my LWB LC II is using tough-dog. quite satisfied with performance.
but problem with LWB LC II is after sometime, the rear portion of the
body will sway & swing. it's getting worse now. those sit at the rear sit
will have a hard time. any way to fix this problem? FYI, my tough-dog is
now 2 years old with heavy off-road usage.

Is your anti roll bar/ sway bar still there?
What do u mean by sway and swing? As in u find the rear rolling more
often? U find the oscillation in the rear not so progressive as in like
it feels quite loose?

Helps if u give a good check with all bushes.
But dont freak out as i suspect that the absorbers are on the verge of
going out since it's 2 years and u say u go off roading quite often.
Should be right as most absorbers last that long anyway and being coil
sprung, absorbers are much more critical than leaf sprung vehicles.

babygod,
my anti roll bar is still there.
forgot to tell that is only happen when I fix on-road tyre. I'm currently
using Wrangler. With off-road tyre like Simex Extreme & Silverstone 117
it's work just fine.
One way to test is by pulling down the back part of the jeep at the roof
& let it go. You can see that, the whole body will swing for about 5
times before it settle down.

I was told that replace the coil spring to Ninja Turrtle coil spring will
solve the problem. Any one has tried that? How about using offset-rim?
Will it help?

From the description u gave me i highly suspect your rear shocks is gone.
If u upgrade to even a stiffer spring it makes it even worse.
Remember a spring by it self will bounce up and down and its the job of
the shock absorber to reduce it.
Anyway u said that the shocks are already 2 years old and its normal for
it to detiorate at that age.
When u are using bigger size tyres it is not so noticeble as there is
more profile in the tyres hence u get the "cushion" feeling.
As opposed to running on road tyres with less profile u will find the
ride slightly harsher ad there is now less profile then b4.
Just my 2 cents.

U dont believe that your absorbers are KO. U take out your rear shockers
and perform the same test, the rear will bounce even more.

Offset rims to me just only increase the track width to give more
stability. Nothing to do with your suspenion.

Well, I will be having the Tough Dog suspension fitted late next week.
