Collected my Grandis in 6th December 2007.
My SA gave me MYR50 for petrol. (very nice & kind of him)
The moment I boarded & started the car, I was breathless.
Hey...it's not that I've never bought a new car or driven an MPV before.

I actually drove my car back from Cheras-Kajang to Taman Tun KL which
took about 30km. For that short driving experience.....
(I've never test drove the Grandis before buying.)

1) With the low-petrol indicator ON, I drove from Cheras Batu 12 to the
Counaught Hiway toll and pumped MYR100 to full tank.
2) The gear-shift was pleasantly smooth.
3) Sound insulation in the car is terrific. Wthout noticing....I was
actually driving slightly above 100km/h.
4) I really love the 3-step illumination on the speedmeter.
5) All 4-doors closing sound is very solid. (comparing with those
Malaysian makes....which sucks)
6) There is some slight "grunt" when excellerate from idle.
7) Excelleration is also very responsive.
8) The steering wheel is a bit heavy while cruising on the hiway.
9) Stability is un-questionable. Feels like driving a sedan car. The
suspension is quite good. (maybe bcos it's new)
10) A plus point for shorter drivers....(the driver seat can be adjusted
higher). I drove with the lowest seat height and it gives me a very good
view from left to right. Sufficiently high.
11) One thing I didn't like....there's no buzzer sound when I lock/unlock
the car. (i wonder if this is adjustable??)
12) Air-Con is cool enough. Furthermore, the rear blower certainly helps
a lot. (those MPVs without rear blowers are really a pity)

So far....there's nothing to complain on the car.
Very well delivered in terms of quality and expectations.
I've driven the Estima many times (my friend's).
The Grandis is definately worth your every single cent.
No doubt about it.....no regrets.

Guys,

What does it take to buy a Grandis or spend $163k OTR for a family car?

Does one need to earn 5 digit? does one takes 7-9 years loan?

I'm interested to know a customer profile of one that can afford cars
within the $140k-$170k range

cala,

got money, can buy ... that's about it for your question I guess.

you can do the math or the bank can also do the math for you to assess your
financial strength during loan application

in short, minimum requirement, if can afford 16K downpayment, plus monthly
of 1.5K for next 9yrs, and still you have money left to eat, pay for a
living space, household expenses, children's needs, wife's needs, savings
etc then the Grandis is yours

it also depends on family size, if just 1-2 kids, sedan will do

The car's monthly installment you pay should be in no way more than 1/3
of your nett monthly income. Then you're quite safe, provided you're a
bachelor with no monthly housing loan/insurances/household expenses/kids
& wifey's expenses, parent's medical fees...etc to settle.

How I wish I'm still single and ten years younger...Big Smile

1/3 of salary???...thats too tight...u need to consider the maintenance, tyres, insurance , road tax petrol....etc too....plus others expenses..hse/education/kids/savings/insurance...etc..

Most reasonable is not more than 10% of salary for installment,...anyway, msian spend too much on cars..its crazy

Just my 2 cents

How come so few on the road? Any super cheap deal for unsold unit?

I prefers to use my head than follow the crowd. After all, it is my money and not theirs.

1/3 of salary is the guideline for the loan. Others stuff will depend on your lifestyle which is difficult to justify.

Tourist, there's a lot of units on the road in KL and PJ. Like the ones with chrome lining on the side skirting.

Between the 2nd row and 3rd row seat. Can you "walk through" between these 2 rows just like the Estima?
