I also advocate repairing compared to replacing. But the best would be to
get a 2nd hand (hopefully larger)engine and stripping it down and do the
same overhaul on it that you would do to repair your old engine.

These 2nd hand engine are in the bin for something right? Maybe the same
problem you had. But all in all, full engine rebuilt is the best.
Maddriver's not the only shop who could do it too.

I've got a 1992 Saga 1.5 Megavalve that is eating black oil as well.
Want to change to a 4 speed auto transmission ( 1.5 DOHC / 1.6 SOHC / DOCH)
Any estimate how much this will cost inclusive of Puspakom test and JPJ
approval?

Hi,

I just overhauled my Year 1990 SAGA 1.3s, 8 Valve recently.

Previously I was thinkin' of engine swap to 4G91.

After much consideration, I finally go for complete engine re-building,
reasons are:-

1. No need to worry about reliability issue with unknown, used engine.
2. No need to seek approval from JPJ or sort of.

I'm happy with it. Kisses

There r pros n cons for either used engine transplant n overhauling.

1) u dunno how good is the used engine.
2) u dunno how good is the mechanic who is overhauling ur engine.

So very hard to said its good nor bad, its about luck bro.

Furthermore, its depends on ur style of driving, do u need a more
powerful engine? FC consumption? n etc..... to be put into consideration.
