Hi all,

i've seen a Putra 1997 for sale at stock condition. some dented on the
roof and from bonet. engine 4G93 was still quite good. My questions are:

1) How much should it worth? it is sell at Rm29k (of course too expensive)
plan to buy it as it is and fix the stuff on my own. is it a good move?

2) How's the general fc for this car? it's manual

3) What are the things to watch out for maitenance?

4) Any tips to evaluate the car in more details?

kindly pls educate and comment. thanks

i own 97 putra (m).

1) rm29k quite expensinve. it should be around rm24K for 1997 (m) putra
nowaday.

2) Just like wira 1.5 (m) if you dont have a heavy foot. you will get
around 13-15km/l while driving on highway. RM30 of fuel is much enough to
bring u from Ipoh - KL.

3) the 5th gear. to check it, u need to drive it around 80km/h on 5th
gear then floor the accelerator. then see whether the gear stick kick
back to neutral or not.
driveshaft - see whether got any vibration while accelerate. normally
happen at door trim or dashboard.

4) any tips? like no.3 answer.

P/S: for the accelerating performance, just refer to this link---->>>

this is my car. still in stock condition. just remove the resonator air
box for better pick up.

don't know how to tell about the maintenance cost per month. so far, i
don't have any problem regarding the maintenance cost. just same like
other cars too i think. or maybe depend on the condition of the car.
spare parts is easy to get. but what can i say, this engine is very
reliable.. my one is 11 years old already, but still work perfectly. just
the lash adjuster sound quite rough (normal problem for 4G93 @ 4G93T).
maybe bcos i quite often pushing it... hahhaa.. about engine spare parts
is totally no problem as 4G93 halfcut is everywhere in chop shop. quite
expensive if u looking for new one.

here i list u some of the parts that i've change/service.

Service radiator and change the top plastic cover - RM150
Clutch Pump Repair Kit (Upper)- RM28
Clutch Pump Lower (Japan) - RM65
Driveshaft (chopshop) - RM130 + labour RM30
Gear Oil (2liters) Castrol - RM24
Timing Belt (original MMC) - RM195 + labour RM80
Plug Seal 4pieces - RM20
Rocker Cover Gasket - RM35
Power Steering Belt - RM20
A/C Belt - RM28

thanks man. that is very informative. but still doubtful in purchasing
it. the highest loan i can get i 19k. still need to stick out a few
thousands to top up. might consider a satria also. should be more 'relax'
to take care of satria compare to putra. somemore i'm just planning to
drive for 2-3 years. as long as it rides well for long distance and can
modify here and there will be nice.:)

cheaper to buy a satria 1.6 and do it up. a properly done 1.6 can be
almost as fast as a 1.8.

Bro, FC for manual is about RM0.17 to 0.18 per km on fuel price RM1.92
per litre. Or u can convert NGV like mine.
Maintanance? I could say the 4G93p engine is damn reliable, parts easy to
find and cheap.
Carefully look out the car body and make sure its accident free unit and
also check out the ori accesories like Recaro seats, momo steering n gear
knob. (some used car may took out n put a cheapo replacement for u) :-)
BTW, putra 97 for a good condition is about 24-26k+-.
If the car's condition is tip top, its sure the price will be abit high.
This is just my humble opinion.

thanks, the putra i saw do not have the origianl seat, steering and gear
knob. i think i'll just get a satria instead. how much is the 1.6cc
engine cost + swap? i mean our local protron 1.6cc (satria or waja).
because currently there are only 1.3 cc available here in Miri. not much
choice. plan to swap later. BTW, satria and putra come from the same
chassis mold?
