keenlui,
160 bhp to run about in a 4G18 is possible and I think it is
achievable without using a BOT, but and there is always a but, your car
might not be so driver friendly.
160 bhp I guess meaning 160bhp on the wheels, that means your engine
power at crank should be around 180 bhp.
Bolt on turbo is not bad, just that you need some amount of work and
patience on it to get it in a reliable state. If you are going for forced
induction, don't worry too much about cams, the fuel mapping and cooling
will be your greatest concern. Waja goes on a manifold air flow sensor,
with a bolt on turbo you need to 'fool' the ECU and use a manifold air
pressure sensor and these 2 sensors works differently. Find a good
tuner/mech else you will have to fork out good money in fixing your car.
Fuel mapping is the utmost importance for forced induction, since
you will most likely be on 0.4 boost, and most bolt on turbo doesn't come
with intercooling, the fuel is used also for cooling the intake charge.
Alternatively, you can go on a different path, using street cams
with better 'breathing'. You might also change some of the internal to
bump up the rev range.
Lastly, what budget you are working on ?

keenlui,

I agree with conrod, you need a good tuner/mech for a BOT. It is not as
easy as you think. I have read somewhere long ago, a Honda Civic 1.5 auto
has a BOT. The car has to go for numerous rounds of fine tuning and
upgrading before it was "tamed". As for your quest, to have 160bhp under
the bonnet, I suggest, an engine transplant, a Mitsubishi 4G93 DOHC
Turbocharged engine. It is a 1.8 liter engine with an approx. 180 -
200bhp. Get a half cut Mit Lancer with this engine. The trasplant is
merely bolt on.
On the other hand, it is also ones pride to have the original engine and
muscles in the car.
