which oil grade 20W50 or 15W40

Hi all,
So far i am using 20W50 oil grade, and now looking into
less "friction" by using 15W40 so will reduce some "pressure" on the
engine at high RPM with normal running temp, probably will prolong
life of oil seals, reduce engine stress etc. Of course, it's still
mineral based either way.
Does this make sense with what i am trying to achieve, or it's the other
way round?

friction...with higher viscosity...less friction...
but too high viscosity...make you engine work harder...so...i think you
mean this "friction"...
But generally ...higher viscosity for longer life of the engine...and
lower viscosity for higher fuel economy...

boss,
so do you know 15W40 viscosity compared to 20W50? Is it too much
difference that i should use 20W50 for longer life, would 15W40 give
balance of fuel economy/longer life.

if your car is not too old or noisy . . . use 15w/40. If u can afford use
semi syn.

both are okay...
go ahead and change to 15W40...but dont expect big saving on fuel
economy...more like 2-3%...or 5% max...

ive been using 20-50 multigrade since new car for abt 3yrs n just recently
changed to 15-50 semi-syn. n honestly no diff. at all.

but note that he is changing to 15W40...40 indicates viscosity at
operating temperature...which is lower than 50...lower viscosity means
less force required for the engine part to move...which should result in
better FC...at least on paper it should...

But if you engage in traffic jam under extremely hot afternoon, protection
to the engine is less if using 15W40 compare with 20W50
to the engine is less if using 15W40 compare with 20W50

for a 1.3 car, you can feel the difference between 20/50 and 15/40
viscocity, the load is lighter for the engine when revved hard, according
to my experience
