fitted these pair of tyres, size 205/45R17 last weekend.
As my Michelin Pilot Precedas for the rear (previously front) were worn out
and hairline crack on one of the tyre was getting wider and longer, had no
time to scout around for tyres and just had to settle for any 205/45R17
tyres available.
The tyre shop offered me several choices:
1. Michelin Pilot Preceda 2 - RM515 per piece(!)
2. Yokohama Advan - RM3xx per piece
3. Hankook V8 RS - RM360 per piece
4. Some other "crap" brand - RM2xx per piece
My initial plan was to get the PP2 but after the guy told me that it cost
RM515 per piece (that too Thai made, whereas my current PP is Japan made),
I changed my mind. If I remember correctly, my old PP cost me not more than
RM400 per piece and now the PP2 cost so much more.
I told the guy my priority was (1) quiet, (2) comfort, (3) grip. Few years
back and I would have opted for grip first, then quietness and comfort.
After looking at the available options, finally I decided to give the
Korean tyre a try. I thought, why not, since I`m fitting the new tyres to
the rear only. My front tyres are still PP with very good thread condition.
I was never expecting the V8 RS to be quieter than the PP, but it proved me
wrong. Not only were the V8 RS quieter than my PPs when they were brand new
but they also felt more confortable than the PPs. As a result, now I can
clearly hear the front tyre rumble (front tyres are PPs) and the rear V8 RS
sounds so much quieter.
Grip wise, in the dry, the V8 RS is really good so far but have not have a
chance to drive through rain yet.
Now is whether the V8 RS can stand the test of time and still remain quiet
and comfortable 6 months down the road.

I can hear noise - i don't know if it is the bearing or the tyres! didn't
have such noise before. will need to check.
handling wise, i think it is a little soft, compared to the Yokos, i
think they are not as sharp.
let see how it goes. i bought mine 205 55 16 for RM275. incl on wheel
balancing and alignment - Sg Chua, Kajang Chevolet service station.

Guess now is the best time to update on the status of the V8 RS.
It is still as quiet as when it was new. Perhaps maybe from day 1 this
set of tyres have been put to the rear where it wears out much slower
than the front ones (which by the way, are still Michelin PP).
Visually, it still looks very new and very black, I think due to the
carbon silica compound. Been to many rounds of wet road / rain since my
last posting and no grip problems whatsoever. Again, perhaps that's bcos
it is placed at the rear and not the front.
I'll be changing my front Michelin PPs very soon and most probably I will
change the front tyres to V8 RS as I'm satisfied with it.

''Visually, it still looks very new and very black, I think due to the
'carbon silica compound.'
But why mine Ventus V8 not very black????
Want to give some feedback on Hankook Ventus V8 Rs:
1. Very comfortable with Hankook V8 (my Hankook was fitted in the front
wheel).
2. I can say is very quiet! i give 90% of quietness. Previously i was using
Dunlop Formula. 185/60/R14 - was so Hard and NOISY when passing uneven road
and rough road surface. Now very satisfy with 195/55/R15 Hankook V8!
3. Grip- Cornering with Hankook V8(front) and Bridgestone Turanza Er-30 are
out standing and awesome.
very Happy with the Hankook Ventus V8!
HC2iVtec: You busted the myth that Hankook Ventus V8 tyres are just quiet
WHEN NEW, after some time it will be very noisy.
But now you proof that, Hankook Ventus V8 was a ultra-performance tyres! No
Regret with Hankook V8!
