SPS youre wrong. shift lock is for when no key in the ignition or brake
pedal press while u still can shift your gear from P to R with Shift Lock
button pressed. evryone can shift from P to R without shiftlock button
depressed, if youre driving a tyt u should know.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am indeed driving a Toyota, and this is the 3rd one too. Ifyou can
shift from P to R with the car started, without depressing the shift lock
button, suggest you go check with UMW

I would be very surprised if you have been able to engage R
from P without depressing the shift lock button first.

The shift lock button is a safety feature. It is there to ensure that
when you attempt to shift into reverse from P, it is a conscious and
deliberate act(and therefore the button is depressed first) and not
accidental.
I sincerely recommend you verify from UMW service centre if you can push
the gear lever of your car from P to R without depressing the shift lock
button.

push, when car not running, with ignition key turned on position (without
twisting into starter mode)...can shift or not?
cefiro also got this button, but never tried to shift before starting...
