Hi, I have been reading many of the inputs on car tyres. We are all concerned about specifications for tyres for our cars so that we can have safety, smooth ride, good grip, etc... at reasonable prices.
Lately, I have come to know something of the importance of the tyre manufacturer's Week/Year data on the sidewall. I have a Goodyear tyre bought in 2013; now I discover that the shop sold me this tyre manufactured in 2010, some 3 years after the date of manufacture.
May I ask how long from the Week/Year of manufacture can a tyre be used. A tyre retailer suggested that a tyre should be changed after 5 years (for drivers who don't drive long distance or use their car everyday.
How long can occasional users of a car keep the tyres?
Will appreciate your views. Thanks.

Heard that if in storage in a cool dry place it can be prolong, but however once it is being in used best to finish it off in 4 years. Therefore please buy as new as possible for the tyres. If the tyres are more then two years old and you can finish them in say 3 years then you still can purchased them but ask for extra discount. Tyres within a year or 2 they normal would not entertain this request.
Tyres when in used, the rubber compound will start to harden by heat and UV sunlight, therefore usually by 4 years there may have fine crack lines appearing on the sidewall, pattern grooves and sometimes even on the pattern. Once crack lines appears means the rubber compound have harden, not only afraid of it exploding if the cracks are large but with harden compound means no more elasticity therefore tyres traction level have drop tremendously, therefore is not safe to use anymore....
