i owned kia spectra novus 2005. There is no pick up whenever going uphill
especially in karak highway or overtaking, the pick is very slow. kancil
and buses are faster than my car. even with the OD off, there is no
difference. i don't feel the foward jerk whenever OD is off. Its like the
car refuse to accelarate even when I have pressed the pedal till the end.

anyone has any idea what is wrong with the car?Frown

my experience working with NazaKia workshop can be of 2 things

1. spark plug cable (very common problem)

2. exhaust pipe leak at centre saloon (weld back at RM20-30.).

other than that, normally Kia Spectra has good performance and
reliability.

yeah it's true, just double check what alldisc has mentioned and get
NAZAKIA to remove the cat-converter..

I experienced drove in LPT Karak hiway during rainy times. After hit the
water, got funny sound..I din press the accelerator and let the car stops
by itself..

For me this car not fun to drive if you expect good performance. It's
better you get waja. No offence, I owned a 2004 before and finally let go
with RM19K lost and I happy with my toyota..

I agree with the observation by alldisc & wanida.

The size & location of the cat con of the Spectra seems to be a problem,
and if it is splashed by rain or puddles after a long drive, it can
actually constrict the exhaust flow causing loud noise, vibration and loss
of power.

As for your 2005 model, the cat con would probably also be clogged with
soot. Normal replacement of cat con is 2 years use but here in bole-land,
it is usually replaced with a stright flow bullet due to costs etc.

Another thing that is worth looking into is a lightened pulley, fitted with
damper would be a better bet although the original pulley is just a solid
cast steel one.

But don't forget that the weight of the spectra is on the high side to
start with. But it was most likely designed to face the numerous threats to
bole-land drivers from suicidial motorbikers/mat rempits &
could-not-care-less hantu lorry drivers.

cat con = catalytic converter. The function is to act as catalyst to
promote the chemical reaction of the components in the exhaust gas to
reduce harmful gases being released by the vehicle. This process requires
the catalyst element within the cat con to be heated up to very high temp
for the chemical reaction to occur.

its been like that since I bought the car. I have changed the cat con to
bullet as well. there is no change in the performance. and yeah, i got the
knocking sound as well whenever water splash on the bullet.
