Dear Wira Fan & Guru,

I heard my mechanic said wira 1.5 can use 1.6 clutch, does 1.6 clutch feel stiffer to press? Kindly share your experience and knowledge. This is the matter that I concern the most, because I always drive in congested traffic in KL. Which brand of 1.6 clutch would you recommend ?

Thank you very much!

Why would you want to do that? What benefit?

first... when people talking upgrading 1.5 clutch into 1.6 clutch...

the benefit is to get higher clutch clamping capability (via bigger clamping surface area pretty much like a big brake disc and caliper upgrade)....while retain similar clutch paddle feels (if maintain using oem clutch kit)

BUT the catch is.....

u need to remove your stock flywheel, send the flywheel along with the clutch assembly to the engineering shop a.k.a machine shop for them to re-drill new bolt hole suits the 1.6 clutch cover... (1.5 and 1.6 clutch cover use different bolt location obviously due to the size differences)...and then get the whole assembly balanced properly....

then after those job done properly, u can install the ready new 1.6 clutch set and flywheel pretty much like any other stock oem clutch set.....

clutch paddle feel remain soft but the clutch grip level was better....

side note: this clutch upgrade was done when your engine power level really needs them (for track, time attack purpose, competition, major power upgrade of modified engine)... for stock engine and normal driving...this upgrade is pretty much useless..waste of money.....

yeap..my scooby also on stock clutch....

but last month tried drag race with guys from club... 2 runs already clutch hangit.... laugh.gif

next step would be upgrading the friction plate using sport.metallic type but retain stock clutch cover....because scooby stock clutch already have firm paddle feel...and stock clutch cover rated can handle up to 320hp (at engine).....

plus since mine was 5mt (nicknamed as glass gearbox in scooby world) i would rather have weak clutch grip instead of broken transmission when doing hard launch.... tongue.gif

yeap....after driving myvi or any other manual car...when driving scooby feels like driving car with heavy duty clutch set already smile_tongue.gif

5mt is quite ok for normal drive/abuse...but for heavy launch it was famous eating 1st and 2nd gear due to torque....
but the 6mt well known for it strength....can do 11sec pass at drag strip without problem of heavy launch....
