I've been told by a paintshop that it's rather futile to paint those parts.

- Brake calipers: They get heated up and will slowly melt / fade the paint with time. You're probably gonna have to repaint it every few months. And he says if u really wanna paint it, then just remove the tyre and paint it on your own as it's really simple.
- Rim: Unless the original coating is in black...if you paint on it it will appear very ugly and will also fade quickly.

Are these valid? I'm asking because I love how some cars have the black rims and red brake calipers but my colour may differ...depending on what colour match I want. But point stands.. I'd love to repaint them. However if there are gonna be disadvantages and too much of a hassle of repainting every few months then I guess I won't bother.

Can anyone enlighten me on this? Thanks.

That Paint shop probably don't want to bother with small jobs or don't know anything other then painting cars.

For the brake calipers you can or have to use high temperature paint. You can get these from hardware shops. These paint can withstand very high temperature so no problem using this to paint the brake caliper.

As for the rims, if you DIY, you can try plastic dip. This is plastic paint but have matte finishes and if after a while you don't like them, these can be peeled off, so you can change the color or go back to original.
If want something more permanent, I would recommend you going to those bigger tyre shops that does rims repair. They can send them for respray to the color you want but there is a con on painted rims. When you change tyres, the un-mounting and mounting of the tyres will scratch the paint on the rim edge, unless you paint the rims but leave the rim edge in metal color

nope..argument invalid.....

a good paintjob will do just fine and last a long time....just make sure wash the wheel and brake caliper throughly... (because most culprit of ugly wheel and caliper due to brake dust)

black looks good? also invalid...because black was the hardest colour to keep it shiny...a tiny dust spot or watermark can ruin the colour easily....

if u want better paint at highest quality is via powdercoating the caliper and wheel....but warn u...it doesnt come cheap..an time consuming.... (dis-assemble, cleaning, send for coating, waiting coating done, re-assemble)

You have 3 options.

1. DIY with high temp paint.

2. Get painter to paint with 2k paint. You must have the clear coat to make it easy to wash the brake dust.

3. Send for powder coating as that is what brake manufactures do.

I've recently painted my rims to gun metal grey. It looks great and the workmanship is good. It took them 4 days to repair (some were dented) and spray. For that particular time, they loan me a set of rims for me to get around. So far so good.

You can look for them in Bandar Sri Damansara. His name is SOH @ 012 231 5080
