Hinggm,

I got a quote from the distributor of "Old Man Emu" at Sg Besi. It's about
RM5.5K to change the springs and absorbers. Have not done it yet.

BTW, with the Naza Sorento selling at RM139K, our CBU value just went down
the drain !!!

Cheers,
Rikki

Some points:

1) I doubt Cyclone will help with anything except lightening your wallet.
Popular Science or Popular Mechanics did a study on these devices. Look
it up on the net.

2) Despite being a body on frame design, it doesnt feel like one. Try
driving Everest, then try the Sorento.

Official Gov. (UK) Test Figures MPG (Lit/100km)
AUTO Gearbox

URBAN (cold engine) 28.5 (9.9)
Extra Urban 43.5 (6.5)
Combined 36.7 (7.7)

CO2 g/km 223 (if you are interested in global warming and
saving the planet)

My own experience is a full tank of gas (80 litres) is good for 650-900 km
(8-ll/100km) depending on style and type of driving, which is quite close
to the "official" UK Gov. figures. Impressive enough for me, considering
it's a 2 ton vehicle!

brake panel totally lam sum rm 1800 each time. my car nonstop start from
new car,, always travel to jungle. used to stuck in mud jungle, stay
overnite and wait for "case" shavol for "tarik"

every 15000km change oil (i use fully senetic oil)

every clock 30000km "MUST" change diesel filter, otherwise your car
will "jam" in the midle of the road.

i don't know when my car will going to die, so far still ok,,
i am expecting diesel nozzle and aircon compressor will "die" as 230k km
is a max, so far ok,,aircond very cool,,

new tyre last 80000km,,,and the rest of the tyre i change last 60000km

full tank RM110 (70 litre), run 860km

as a result, my rear bomber damage nothing, not even repair as he crash
on my spare tyre rim, he cried as totally damage for his front( at least
5k for repair) my front side was demage and repair claim insuran

i will give this car 5 star durable, helping me for travel around
malaysia and jungle in 230k, i hope it works going on and going on.

Hello all,

I'm too cheap to buy a brand new car and get into many years of debt. Recently the prices of second-hand previous-generation Kia Sorento (2008-2010 with facelifted headlights & dash) have become too low for me to ignore... so here I am, thinking.

Questions:

1) Is it true that 2.5 litre CRDI Sorentos manufactured after 2007 make more power and torque than the ones before?

2) When evaluating 2.5 litre CRDI Sorentos from 2008-2010, what should I look out for? Any specific areas on this model that I should pay close attention to in order to avoid a lemon?

3) What kind of repairs should I normally expect to plan for in a 5-6 year old Sorento? In this model, what typically wears out and need replacing after 5-6 years?

4) I saw chiptuning kits that claim to push this old 2.5 CRDI engine from 170 ponies to 210 with gobs more torque. Anybody tried it?

5) How much is the roadtax, by the way..?

hello, i used to own a kia sorento 2006 model and i just recently sold it, so here's my take on the car. It has been generally been a very reliable car. In my 8 yrs of ownership, i only changed 2 injectors, so its pretty good considering i have also owned rextons before and i have change 8 injectors for that car in the span of 4 yrs. In my years of ownership these are the things that went wrong and you should look out for. The aircond compressor, the alternator, the rear shox and the radio unit. i changed the shox on my car to OME and the difference was very significant akin to light and day. The drive on highways was much more controlled and minus the floating feel, its is highly recommended that you upgrade the shox. For the aircond compressor, i would say its not too bad that it lasted me 8 years, but if compared to my office toyota altis, that cars aircond compressor has been running for 13 yrs without issues. The radio units fault would be the volume control nob, its really screwed up, even with very little use, as i use the steering controls more often. On top of that, the heater plugs would tend to get fried after 2 to 3 years, then you would need to replace them will fail. With regards to the ecu tuning or piggy back tuning, depends on which system you choose. i chose the ecu tuning route and the power has been amazing but there will be future problems with the gearbox. As the torque and hp will increase considerably, durability of the gearbox comes in to question. The increase in torque tends to make the gear box hold on gears longer, as if the torque is making it difficult for the gearbox to change in to a higher gear. But the engine does tend to rev freer and acceleration times improved, its makes the suv have better responses. I am not sure whether you are going for the ecu tuning or the piggy back route, but do be careful when you do it, as my ecu got fried 7 yrs on, whether it could be due to the tuning or not, i don't know, but definitely there were signs of strain on the gearbox, shifts where sometimes clunky towards the end of my ownership of the car. But after the ecu was replaced with a stock second hand unit, the clunkyness was much reduced and of course the power too, and i had to re-adapt to driving a less powerful car. So take the car you are eyeing for a test drive and if possible find out where the car was previously serviced and see whether any of the injectors have been replaced and also get the injectors checked out, as the injectors would cost alot to replace.
