Queue Jumping Tops List of Commuting Irritants - New Research

LONDON, July 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Want to wind up your fellow travellers?
Then nothing beats queue jumping at the bus stop, with more than
one-in-four (27%) Britons viewing this as a serious social faux pas,
according to new research from Trueform, the UK's leading provider and
manufacturer of end-to-end transport and infrastructure solutions.

The daily commute is a battle ground in social niceties with more than
two-thirds (67%) of Britons believing we are no longer a polite nation and
getting stressed by a range of queuing behaviours.

Queue jumping may be the greatest irritant for British bus travellers but
there are plenty of other behavioural black spots the courteous traveller
needs to avoid.

Spitting is considered the second most unacceptable behaviour, selected as
the number one irritant by a quarter of Britons (25%), followed by smoking,
which most winds up 15% of travellers.

Urinating dogs are the fourth most irritating bus stop behaviour, with
nearly 8% of Britons claiming this makes them see red, with loud music
through headphones selected by 4.5% of bus commuters.

But, if you want to know where the bus is going then your fellow travellers
are a helpful bunch. Less than 1% claim to be irritated by being asked the
destination or time for the next bus, with an equally small percentage
concerned about comments from passing motorists.

"One of the accepted stereotypes about the British is that we are a nation
that loves to queue," comments Trueform Technical Director Jonathan Morley.

"This research demonstrates that to gain social acceptance there's a
certain way to achieve this British trait and failure to follow the queuing
code is sure to wind up your fellow travellers.

"Since the first bus stops were introduced 70 years ago, queuing behaviour
has become ingrained into the bus travellers psyche and you ignore this at
your peril!"

Trueform works with councils and transport authorities across the UK
manufacturing, installing and maintaining a wide range of intelligent
transport systems, real-time travel information systems, journey planning
solutions and CCTV equipped and solar-panel powered transit stops,
shelters, interactive customer kiosks and associated infrastructure.

Research was conducted by Experian Canvasse Opinion using an online
methodology between 30th March and 4th April 2006 with 1,632 UK
representative responses.

No one will care because of terrible traffic design at M. I presume someone will try to bleach the law.
