Hi Datyan,
Agreed that the safety (airbags), interior presence and boot room, CX-5 have the advantage.

Anyway, comparison should be made on ASX CKD and CX-5 CKD. Would suggest you drop by at the showroom and test drive the ASX CKD ... especially if you are interested in getting the 4WD variant.
For the price of RM134k ... the ASX CKD 4WD is pretty atrractive but I have no idea how the 4WD feels like. The 4WD variant is also about 100kg heavier than the 2WD variant. As for FC goes, my FC reads about RM0.18/km. (mostly city travel)

As for the boot room, the last time I squeezed in luggage for 4 adults and 2 children (for 3 days 2 nights stay), I have to remove back cover (the one which cover the boot space) to cater for the loads. On a more specific info, CX-5 boot capacity is 503ltr while ASX is 442ltr. If you are paying more attention on the boot space, then I believe you do know which one to choose. By the way ... Subaru XV boot capacity is 310ltr (therefore I choose the one in the middle especially I keen to install roof racks for my ASX)

If you prefer a SUV with 4WD capacity ... then why not choose ASX, it is afterall cheaper than the CX-5 about 25k and the panaroma roof is a killer and I believe the warranty given for both models are almost identical (correct me if I am wrong)

Last but not least ... for me ... the location of the nearest service center is something that I take into consideration too.

thanks cskiat, appreciate your fair opinion.
FC wise, my friend's reads about RM0.16/km. (puchong/pj)

now, the resistance to get asx for me is growing as my parents and wife all vote for cx-5, plus my bloody friend smile_evil.gif (that own cx-5) that kept brain-washing me to get cx-5.
anyway will do more research on both cars in terms of long term maintenance cost....

Glad to be your assistance. Anyway, my fc is based on Cheras to Kl city center and subang jaya.
Choose the car that you want, if not everytime you drive past the car you wanted to buy ... you will feel sore. I am happy with my choice and here wishing u all the best. Do recommend you go through the Autoworld forums on ASX and CX5.

just check with mitsu SC, service cost RM1300 for major (every 40k milleage) and around RM330/RM400(incl. alignment balancing) for minor.

as for cx-5, minor service about the same as asx, major is around RM1700 (their SC roughly workout during the teleconversation).

if any of you have diff. figure please share. bek075.gif

From 225/55R17 to 225/55R18 without changing the aspect ratio, your diameter becomes bigger by 3.74% which is over the 3% ruling. You may loose some pick up power with the bigger diameter tyres too and may loose some FC. Better option is to go 225/50R18 which is bigger by 0.43% only....

Thanks for your advice vr2, but don't u think that 50 series..ride will be more harsh compare to 55 series? another issues
is well as u know ASX fender and wheel gap quite big..sort of want to reduce the gap

u can use lowering kit

this is a lowered ASX / Outlander Sport

my ASX with skinny 18" wheels. the wheel arch is quite large, so the gap is there. it does looks a bit funny, but the bulky 18" black matte wheels do help hide it

Guys,
Been a silent reader all this while..owner of ASX 2012; just wondering some of you have switch to 18inch wheels
from the standard 16inch...any issue on the airbag light going on? since ratio is different now.

Currently I am on 225/55 R17, planning to upgrade to 225/55 R18, just concern if it will have any affect due to ratio,
especially on the air bag light etc. As I still wanna stick to 55 series as I feel its more comfy. by the way I do understand
its on positive side of upsizingand would affect my odometer reading

Any advice guys

go for the series 55. most people will agree 3% is still within acceptable limit. 3% error on speedo is negligible

i am using 225/50 and the ride is quite harsh

if you want to go for 18" wheels, go for 235mm tyre width. it gives the care a wider look

i had limited budget so i sticked with 225/50/18. 235/50/18 and 235/55/18 are almost rm 100 more expensive per tyre.
