I have a Cefiro A33 which was repainted with High Solid Clear (hard clear coat) by the previous owner and the owner never took car of the car. When I bought the car it had very bad water marks and so I thought it was time to do some correction. I originally did some test using Lamb's wool pad and Osren Crystal Cut 3.0. Took many passes and was alot of work as at that time I didn't know the car had such a hard clear coat on it. For those who don't know the Lamb's wool & Osren CC3.0 is aggressive enough to remove sanding marks on soft to medium pant.

So it was obvious I didn't have the right stuff to do the job. So I dropped by Osren to see what Henry (bro Hitachi) had in his shop to make my life easier. So he suggested Jeans pad (when you google its called denim pad) & Osren P40 combo with LC Twisted wool & P40 to finish off. So he did a test panel on my car with those combos and it worked. What he pointed out and then I realized also was that the clear coat was hard that with the Jeans pad & P40 combo, it doesn't haze the paint. Actually the finish was pretty good standing 1 feet away and is passable as a daily driver. Only under closer inspection you could see a few holograms.

So back to the house I went a started work on the car. So this is what I noticed, I forgot to mention that the machine used was an RB:

1. Henry said that the jeans pad works better when primed properly and you should always have it primed and not fully clean the pad like we normally do with foam pads. Very true, it took some priming of the jeams pad to get it up and runiing properly. Once primed properly and a few passes was made on the panels, its was great to use. When new, it tends to be grabby, but once primed properly its nice and smooth to use.

2. P40 is really aggressive and you can hear the grittiness of it when you spread it on the paint.

3. With the Jeans + P40 combo, you need to get the speed and pressure right, if not you can have hazing and some slight holograms and the occasional marring/swirl here and there. But if you do it properly, the finish is surprisingly good with no hazing and little marring.

4. Finish off with LC Twisted wool pad & P40 will give you a 95-98%++ finish. Goodness I cannot believe you use this combo as a finishing step when normally you would use it as a sanding mark removal combo, that gives you an idea of how hard the paint it. One pass of this is enough to finish off the paint unless you missed some spots.

All the water marks are on the boot, roof and bonnet. I didn't bother to remove all the water marks as some of them are so deep that if you level them off you would have little to no clear left. So I just did whatever I could. Since its a daily driver, it'll do. So here are some pics. You can really see its got great, clear sharp reflections with little orange peel. You can see the sharp text reflections of the bottle and rough textures of the white pillar reflecting off the paint. The lines of the pillars are pretty straight as well.

Now here is a before and after of some orange peel removal. 2 passes of Jeans pad & P40 with no finishing and have a look at the results. YES No finishing step done yet, just 2 passes of Jeans & P40. For you guys which are noobies, look at the lines of the pillar. The before isn't straight and after 2 passes its much straighter. I stopped at 2 passes as its enough. Now a days not so OCD and crazy, not to mention lazier, more over its a daily driver.

Before

After

So from now on, all my cars being repainted I'm gonna ask for High Solid Clear. Its nicer to work with, not to mention easier and much more forgiving. You don't need such great attention to detail at every little single step and do so many steps just to get a great finish.

Thanks has to go to bro Henry for recommending this paint correction combo. smile_thumbup.gif

I notice that your 1st pic (before) is also a bit out of focus (pay attention to the white car behind, it is not as in focus as the after pic) . Though I do not doubt the result of your work but I think with both picture in manual focus or focusing at the same point you would have presented with a much more convincing writing.
But again, like I said, I do not doubt the result. I knew what you doing LOL.

Thanks.

Its a pity it wasn't taken care of properly. Reality of average joe owner. The paint could have been really nice as its got good quality clear on it and the respray was reasonable quality.

On another note this is the 1st time, I was trying out OP removal via jeans and P40 as I'm still old school and prefer wet sanding. In a nut shell, much less effort than wet sanding.

But as I always predicted, actual wet sanding it still the best, as you get a proper CLEAR & PRECISE visual que as to when you should stop sanding and the OP has leveled off.

With this its more or less there, as you base it on the reflection you see of what has been leveled off, some places might have been leveled of more than others as at times the reflections can be deceiving. Sometimes also there might be other caused which create a slightly OP look. Only wet sanding will show you that you have perfectly leveled off the clear and if there is some OP looking reflection its not because of the clear.

But all in all using this pad and compound combo, its highly recommended for detailing and respray business as its fast easy and effective albeit slightly less precise. But I still think its an efficient way to do OP leveling and will suffice 99% of customers out there.

In reality looking at my reduced OP after picture, isn't that enough for most people and daily driven cars. Any more paint perfection should be reserved of weekend cars, or show cars as its not practical to have it as a daily driver.

Sorry lah, I very camera stupid wan, all I know is point and shoot in auto mode and that is the best that I could do and don't even have the interest in learning how to do use the camera properly.

Moreover my wife also complain, why you bother doing this, I never ask you to do also (I bought the car for her mah). Who going to see until like that. You shiok sendiri only. So keep quiet and don't argue. Actually I also wanted to try this method of OP leveling as I only use to wet sand and I've seen and heard about this method and others of our kakis has used and tried this method with good results like fishbonez.

Wet sanding more precise but then this way is so much easier.... smile_thumbup.gif

That is why for my light colored cars, even got swirls I just leave them. Can't be seen easily unless you shine a torch at it or under petrol station lamps. In bright daily it shines so well, can hardly see it.....hahahahha smile_tongue.gif

totally agree v you..no point to make it swirls free (at least 85% swirls free lah of course) as washes will bring it back
imp is to restore back the shine & gloss
i oso left my sparkling gold with some swirls too...

I will follow closely and see how much swirls will be inflicted after this round of correction. I don't think it'll be as much as normal as the clear is pretty hard and only I wash all the cars so it should be quite ok. So only time will tell.
