Here are some pics of a LSP I just decided to revisit. Why? Itchy loh, nothing to do. But still too lazy to do proper correction to try the DJ Infinity Sealant/coating. smile_big.gif

I decided to revisit this LSP because it was an average product with average results on the other cars I tried it on. One was solid paint, the other was resprayed with medium hardness clear coat which is slightly more harder than factory.

So now trying it on hard clear coat. Results are much better and would say quite good. Thus my statement below.

The purpose of this post is not to promote a particular product but to show how results can vary from car to car. Point is, don't get sucked into great beautiful pics, wonderful beading or sheeting abilities as a lot of it depends on the quality of the clear coat or paint on the car. Thus we can generally say that "Performance can vary from car to car". Where a product can do average on a car but be quite a decent product on another. Then what we have are conflicting points of view for one product (which then lead to great online and forum arguments, product bashing and debate over the performance, value, looks etc etc over a single product). Thus to keep in mind why buying products that performance can vary widely for a particular product and to hear all sides with an open mind and be willing to try a product if cost permits and be prepared to over or under perform for your car.

So here is may short review of the mystery LSP revisited.

1. Very easy to use, and a damp applicator works best as it spread and glides the product more evenly and smoothly across the panel.

2. Easy to buff. With little to no dust.

3. Very low odour or smell. Not stated on the product but I'm sure its Low VOC compliant.

4. Very easy to clean up the applicator sponge. Just rinse with water will do. I was surprised.

5. Shine. Can't tell much diff from other products that I use. Would say that its not really a darkening product. Seems to be on a lighter brighter side more suitable for light colored cars.

6. Beading. Varies with type and quality of paint. Can be average on others and can be good on others as you can see from the pictures below. Personally I think the beading is very very good on this car, didn;t really get this type of performance on other cars. Really nice round, high contact angle beads.

7. Sheeting. Water hose sheeting is good in general. I would say good balance of beading and sheeting ability for this particular car.

8. Apply thin coats as usual like all products.

9. Feel. Well this product feels not slick nor very nice straight after you buff the product off to a shine. But funnily enough give it an hour or two after buffing and feel it, its feels slicker, smoother and the slick oil feel starts to emerge. Very weird, never felt a product like this before. Didn't really take notice the last time I tried it.

All in all, not a dud product to avoid at all cost, well for this car anyway. Performance I would say commensurate with cost. Basically not bad lah, considering the price you pay as for the same price you can buy products much worse.

So here are the pics.

From my experimentation, how you apply the product and how long you wait before buffing makes a significant difference.
Try using a rotary with the softest foam pad + approx 1500rpm to slowly burnish the LSP onto the clearcoat.
If my customers demand carnauba wax as LSP, i also use this method. Based on my observation and prtds used, the gloss is better, increased durability and it "feels" slicker. Using ice cold water to apply multiple layers of carnauba also gives a noticeable improvement in these areas.

Hmmm 1500rpm sounds fast, might try it one day with a LC gold pad.

Heard of the ice water trick but never tried it, thanks for reminding to try. smile_big.gif

Bro. jon,
Yup, the surface applied on plays a very big part. My own car with deteriorating clear coat and my wife's newer car gives different results especially in terms of durability also, using same product.

Thanks for the tip, but nowadays not so hardcore. LSP all done by hand.... smile_tongue.gif

Thanks myautospa.

Lesson here for everybody to learn is not so much the product but alot has to do with the quality of the clear coat or paint. The beading that you see is not even on a perfectly prepped surface, its alittle rough, has bad water mark etching.

You don't even see the defects and feel all the contaminants on the paint and it was a cheap OTC product available in all Petronas stations. Ooppppss did I leak the mystery LSP out.

Point is don't be disappointed if you can't get this type of beading on your car even though you used the same product as I did and don't get sucked in by the beautiful picture like mine, or other great pictures advertisers use as the paint was far from perfect. Even if your paint was perfect you might not get that type of beading with the same product. So don't feel bad as its mostly down to the quality of the paint.

smile_tongue.gif LOL...yes, the Power of Marketing, and the industry players' clever use of words to
snare the ignorant newbies.

Ahhh..which reminds me of a salesman asking me to upgrade my home's unglamorous "4 stage water filter" into a QUAD stage water filtration system. LOL.
