Proton preve achieved 5 star Australian New Car Assessment Program.

Granted this is the 1.6 IAFM+ CVT Version.
I believe the CFE CVT Version result should be the same as it will have the same safety features.

Currently the Proton Preve sold in australia is the normal IAFM+ Manual / CVT version.
But they have this on all the models...
- 6 airbags
- ESP + Traction Control

A good news for proton and it would be better if they can make this variant available in Malaysia.

I personally believe even with a RM 2-3k price hike but the consumer have 6 airbags and ESP, it will sell even better.

As it is now, most of the Preve sales has been stolen by the Almera already.
I personally seen more Almera on the road now compare to Preve.

no doubt the extra airbags helps...bt more importantly the stiffer body and more rigid structures and key point in the chasis is the reason why it gets the 5 stars....anyway this is a turning point for proton in terms of recognition....lets all praise them n hope things can only get better...

I'm not surprised at this result. The Preve's chassis is very solid, but it is let down only by various small things such as questionable electronics and poor execution of certain features.

unfortunately its the execution of this features that is the deal breaker for malaysians in general...

u can spec it to the moon but if the UI is akward, u will lose lots of marks straightaway as the user/owner in general will be using this kind of features more then they will use the sunroof, bla bla bla...

Can u comment more about what u mean by questionable electronics? Poor execution of certain features, any examples

autofold mirror (on CFE version).. only will auto unfold once u move beyond 5 km/h
push start... need to insert keyfob into the slot to start the car (keyfob mechanism is too sensitive, slot in too hard and it will pop back out)
user UI... for example, the touch screen area of the HU is too small...

all this can be fix as a running changes... but it should not be that way in the first place...

then there is the drive train refinement part....

all the refinement while retaining the cool r&h

I've covered these in my two reviews of the Preve, but to recap, my experiences with the test cars include:
- the push start button of the CFE model, the key-slotting mechanism is poorly calibrated and is very easy for the key fob to bounce right out if you press it too hard. No other test car gave me such issues. Indeed, it can be questioned why Proton bothered to give a push-start button when it is not usefully accompanied by keyless entry - just a gimmick.
- auto-folding side mirrors that only auto-unfold after the car moves off and hits a speed of 5kph, not useful if you want to reverse out of a parking slot.
- the CVT programming is poor. it works well under full throttle, but under part throttle load, it is hesitant and laggy.
- some journalists report problems starting their cars, although I personally did not experience such issues.
