Used Ford Focus

Hi All Sifu,

I'm looking for used Focus HB, however have few question really need some help.

1. Since is a used unit what should I pay more attention?
2. What is the common issue for Focus?
3. If I do not go back to the authorise SC where is the best place to do by the way I'm from PJ.
4. current owning a Puegeot not happy with their SC, NAZA need to improve.....

Hope can get some feedback from you all before I pick a car.

I just bought a used 2009 Ghia.
I'm not familiar with it, so i brought my mechanic with me to chose one.
He mention make sure the gear and engine mounting is good as we tested many units, most not well maintain. average milage is 60K~80K km.
Then after 2 months used, the gear shifting line (connector to the gearbox broken), temp solution is just tie with Cable tie. The plastic connector will cost RM700++.
Then while the aircon fan broke down. The fan is ok, but the control box is out. Replacement cost is RM 1,200!
So till not everyting still looks ok, only heavy drinker, avg RM 0.21~0.25 per km..
SC is ok, especially Puchong and PJ..

Hmmm, aircon fan is not wear and tear item. But it broke down after 3-4 years. Anybody else experienced this faulty air-con fan, or it's a one off thing in this particular Focus model?

Think is the aircond module at the dashboard, touchwood so far my 2008 Focus is the normal wear tear parts.

When u buy focus, please set aside maybe 2k to do up the car. With parts available from china, cost of ownership is lower now.

Parts u need to take notice.

1) engine mounting
2) gear selector (use cable tie)
3) bonnet lock
4) bearing
5) drive shaft

Above items are normal wear tear parts and previously is expensive due to uk source, now china source is very affordable.

Thanks for the information. Some parts such as engine mounting are normal wear-and-tear items, so these would need to be replaced sometime when they age or crack. Though I wouldn't expect any serious replacement within say 50,000-60,000km mileage or 4 to 5 year old models. Perhaps the older Focus models with considerably mileage clocked would be more vulnerable, requiring more change in wear-and-tear parts.

Interesting there are now more affordable after-market China spare parts for the Focus. Are these parts readily available in the service centres, or we need to source it outside?

My cousin goes to a second year. And quite happy. Minor repairs he had done, but under the warranty. He likes its explosive nature, although it is not a big car, but the traffic lights he does sometimes wonders. I do not know .. everyone should choose for themselves ..

Wonder where is the best place to source for the China made parts?
