As illustrated recently by the Camry and Hilux, Toyota has no qualms soldiering on with powertrains for two or three model generations so long as consumers continue to accept them.

But once it senses that the competition gains ground, the new powertrains will come very quickly. Think ZR engines in the Corolla 2010 and the new Hilux 2.5 VNT.

The Nissan Almera said to be more than 14km/l... so if Vios wanna compete, it better do something.

Also, the Almera is selling below RM80k for its top range, where Vios is selling for RM82k for its E model.... So, do you think the new Vios 2013 will lower its price to compete with the Almera?

rx330,

Almera dugong vs Vios dugong, since it has 2nd generation all range VVT vs Vios 1st generation VVT without high end support, Almera could defeat Vios FC in high speed cruising. In city driving, Vios could still stand a chance. Toyota will observe sales before decide whether to bring in new Vios 2013.

Since Kia Rio will be launched next year, if it is priced right, new Vios dual VVT would be introduced sooner than expected. It will not be priced lower than the empty Almera as the Vios 2013 is packed with ingredient. Almera is priced low mainly because it is a cheap low budget car with obsolete technology, still giving 130Nm range torque for 1.5L with VVT? 1.5L with VVT today could generate >140Nm while 1.6L generate >150Nm.

The Hilux is now fitted with VGT is a sign that Toyota will only give us newer tech if threatened. That is when new Ranger introduced with new platform. Triton VGT will have no choice but to lower its price since VGT is not that expensive compared to normal turbocharger as compared Hilux no VGT vs Hilux with VGT.

I have a friend who booked the Almera. He admit that it is not as powerful as the Vios he is driving now. He is taking the Almera for the low fuel consumption. Also it is lower price compared to the current Vios Duyong...

He'll more likely regret if the new Vios 2013 launch sooner than expected next year. Yes, the price is slightly lower, but in terms of quality in terms of technical, does it even come close to Vios 2013? How often and how easily could he dispose the ride for new one if he finds it not ideal?

Almera the uglier Dugong design is totally awful not just in terms of looks but the weight distribution. Having such long chassis with that narrow width eventually giving more drag to the rear as per law of physics. Yes, it could give lots of legroom space but the drag from the long and narrow chasis that sits higher will not give stable aerodynamic ride.

That is why the infected journalists could not even cover up the unstable high speed cruising though they speak nothing on its sluggish drive up slope and starting from idle. If they said the weight is just as light as Vios, at least the Vios is lower in height with wider width and stance yet it is shorter therefore for the 141Nm to pull 1050kg is not an issue.

U r talking craps here again, in fact Vios is merely 5 mm wider than Almera & Vios wheebase is merely 40mm shorter, one should compare wind resistance base on Drag coefficient factor not the lengh or heigh of a car, Vios has 0.30 compare to Almera 0.31 which is marginal.
How about Almera having bigger first gear ratio u like to talk about ? Everybody know that Dugong was a nickname given to Vios so don't try to pass it to Almera, in fact Almera main selling point is the internal space & fuel efficiency which been proven by AW, PTB & MT base on test of 13units of car.
Admit it u r a bad loser who can't bash Almera base on Safety since it has already proven in US most stringent crash test & proven fuel efficiency by EPA & actual road test been carry out by the top 3 auto website in Malaysia, plus Almera is a international available model, sore loser is what u r now, loses in a fair competition but whines about it on constant basis, blaming everyone around u exept ur self, now taunting every where in this forum. sterb292.gif

jayraptor, u seem to know a lot about the Vios 2013. Can you tell us more about it? It is still using the same engine as the current Vios? the fuel economy? the space? the design? etc etc

jolokia, if you are comparing the Almera with the current Vios, well I would said it is not fair comparison. Also, we all know that the local motor journalist are not daring in their report....

Neah ! Who's comparing, just can't tahan that fellow, simply bash Almera base on his own imagination, I mean what kind stupid comment if ur car is longer it would run slower ? All the 3 review shows Almera is just an average car, main selling point been fuel efficient & better leg room that all, plus point for Almera been tested by IIHS US crash test & chosen as 2012 top safety pick. Still I doulb that Almera can ever come close to Vios crown.

Hard to say as suddenly 2 of my friends already bought it to replace their P1 smile_thumbup.gif
Too bad due to whatever act sales figures can't be disclosed anymore.
