HI,

I owned the for almost 4 months. The ride is good and stable. FC is full tank 62L for only 500KM. Highway or town seems the same. Well...a powerful car, good pickup speed but noisy engine. Since is cheap, I install sub woofer to cover the engine sounds.
My dad can read newspaper during i drove 140KM/H. (Not high way !!)

Upgrade to 17' tyre. More stable and good curving.

1st Incident, my car kenal toll for twice, 1st day I get my car during drive back to PG. after a months (my car was in PG's services center for almost a month), it toll back to Prai SC again. Seems wiring issue and burn the fues. Anyway, it solved.

Almost 4th months, now this time should be a BIG issue. I found a strange indicator lamp on, which is next to maintenance lamp. Tried to found the user guide seems not indicated. Bring to SC (KotaBharu), sound this time is gearbox over heat. I just drive from my hometown to KB (27KM) only, gearbox overheat ? Btw, it is a heavy raining day (moonsoon in Kelantan now). But this time is better, no need to toll the car. Coz FYI, Chery only pay RM200 only. I have very very good experiences about it.
FYI, this car very very hot (I mean the engine). Hotter than diesel car. I will off day tomorrow due to my car was in SC wait for repair. So far SC just guessing only. The indicator lamp is really don't shown on the user guide.
Even they said ok, I expected there will be second time. Very sure. So have to ask my wife give me more pocket money in order kenal toll again.

Interial is cheap done, plastic, the middle box is automatically open so you need to think how to lock it (I just use doubleface tape) got sounds (wind sounds, etc). So recommended put at least 8' woofer. Don't think to add any sound prove blabla....waste your money or just buy a Wish.

As my experience, it is good car. But if you are really free to spend your time kenal toll, here problem, there problem. Or your boss is very good to say ok for leave while the car can toll anytime. The main factor is CHEAP, really CHEAP.
Maintenance is ok, but you need to make friend with your SC, coz you will be always there..hehe.

Regret to take this car ? still boleh tahan till my wife ask me to sell it even red figure. Actually my wife did mentioned to sell it and buy the Hyudai GrandRoyale, which is +60K and +1K for roadtax. Well, I sure will if I win the big sweet.
Cheated ? Nope. Just cheat myself "is like that lor....." haha.

So this is my experience. Decision is up to you. Bless you.....

Just update. My car will put in the SC for another month i guess. So i think you can make your decision take it or leave it.
As my report, the car was in Penang SC almost a month. Now in KB for another month. 4 months actually 2months on the road. Good car.....no comment.

Manage to have a view at the showroom recently.

Initially quite impressive with the space, sun roof etc.

After closer look getting worry looking at the door hinge. Only supported by a small removable pin not permanently welded to the body. If the pin break, suppose the door might drop out too.

Also notice quite a number on the road where the exhaust pipe look rusty though car still new. Korea made still more trustworthy aft think think.

No offense, pls rebut if facts not right.

One should go China to check if really want to gauge it's quality. China carmakers are launching new models very frequently. Quality looks good in photos which should means they are improving fast. However dealers here are so slow-poke & profits minded, don't think they have long-term interest in building up the brand hence cin-cai attitude. smile_blackeye.gif

My Chery Eastar is now slightly over 2 years old. In that time the only major issues I have had are:

1. Power steering failure. Wife was driving the car and heard a weird sound. Clever lady stopped the car and called me. I advised her to call Chery Service Center. She did, tow truck came and tow to PJ HQ. This was Saturday afternoon. Sunday late morning we received call to come and collect the car.

2. Gearbox sensors failure. Car needs to be warmed up first before driving otherwise warning light will come on and gear will not shift up. Head mechanic at SC told me Eastar uses Renault gearboxes (can't remember which model) and the gearbox is famous for this problem. There are a total of about 7 sensors. Problem is Chery will not replace all of them at once because it is expensive. So they will try and diagnose and pinpoint which sensor and then change only that sensor. So far we have replaced one of them but the problem still persists. Sending the car in tomorrow to change again.

Other minor issues like build quality, wind noise etc but when I compare it to Proton Exora (which my best friend owns) and Nissan Livinia (which my cousin owns), I say the Eastar wins hands down. There are a lot of small features I like in the car like the red warning lights on the door (for when you open the door), light even for the cash box in the middle etc.

FYI, I've driven the car from KL to Koh Samui and back without any incident at all. Could maintain high speeds at long periods of time without any overheating issues etc.

In summary, this is a value for money buy. I've previously owned a brand new Myvi SE and also a few other cars. I'm happy with it.

For that little money, I will buy one if I have the need for use of a small mpv, if no good the china factory close down already but they are growing and growing. It about more than 20 times bigger than potong and pdua added up together.

Just an update. Collected my car back from the SC and all issues fixed. I had to pay for the O2 sensor though because the warranty for it is only 1 year. Argued with the SC about warranty for engine being 3 years and he showed me a list that showed different warranty timelines for different items.

I checked in the Service booklet and sure enough the list is shown there too. So as usual, we the consumers get hit with the fine print. Had to pay RM320 for the sensor. smile_angry.gif

I also told him about haribulan's case and according to him, there are 3 suppliers of parts for Chery in China. So depending on your luck, if your car gets a batch of parts which are not so good, then your experience just might be bad. So again, it comes down to the question of QC. I guess I can thank my lucky stars my car is in the "good" batch...
