For fuel saving they should make an auto cruise based on engine load and and not speed. I always want it based on engine load or vacuum based. Then you can set it at -300mm/hg or bar and you will get very good efficiency.

The problem with speed based auto cruise is that when the car sees an incline or gradient the car slows down because the engine got no power then it'll gas the car some more to get back at the preset speed. Lagi cannot the car down shifts to get the speed. Auto cruise is really stupid. Its only good for really flat roads.

My wife's Chery SUV on climbing the hill before the Ipoh Tunnel, I set at 80kmh (Speed limit). It cruise until it became steeper then drop to 3rd to pick up, but once it reaches the set speed it switches back to 4th and as it drops in speed it drop to 3rd again....

Precisely, not a very efficient way of driving if you are looking for fuel economy. That's why an engine pressure based system is better but it'll be too complicated for the average joe.

So what i do is when got hill or gradient i just take it our of cruise control and manually drive.

Agree with jonlsl. Especially when there are rolling hills up/down.
Rolling downhill, go higher than pre-set, it sort of auto-brake for you.
Going uphill, as explained, downshift and try to reach pre-set ASAP, hence sudden high RPM.

Manual drive, going downhill, if see uphill in front, can actually speed up slightly 10-20km/h for the momentum.
So when go uphill, the momentum slows down to pre-set and just maintain speed.

Was testing out the auto cruise since not many cars..... smile_big.gif
Usually do not use as traffic normally heavy. I would say depends on the gradient, because on the way up the gradient is less steep, it worked on high gear, only on the way back the gradient was steeper, hence the gear switch..... smile_wink.gif

Pushing to 130kmh to get up the next hill, then after that hill kena stop by speed trap.....hahahaha smile_big.gif
On way back on Sunday saw no trap, but on the way up on Thursday got. Seems to be stopping many cars, because stop at the road side some cars got no police attend, then the car in front of mine was asked to go to the side, he turn, saw no place, so he went further down the road, then the next thing I saw him driving along side me, and went off..... smile_shock.gif
