For fuel saving they should make an auto cruise based on engine load and and not speed. I always want it based on engine load or vacuum based. Then you can set it at -300mm/hg or bar and you will get very good efficiency.
The problem with speed based auto cruise is that when the car sees an incline or gradient the car slows down because the engine got no power then it'll gas the car some more to get back at the preset speed. Lagi cannot the car down shifts to get the speed. Auto cruise is really stupid. Its only good for really flat roads.

My wife's Chery SUV on climbing the hill before the Ipoh Tunnel, I set at 80kmh (Speed limit). It cruise until it became steeper then drop to 3rd to pick up, but once it reaches the set speed it switches back to 4th and as it drops in speed it drop to 3rd again....
