hi r3xton,
i am thinking of getting a used rexton unit. for frequent penang-KL travelling. I try to find the following information but since there are scattered through the forum maybe you help summarize them for me. wanted to consider between 2,8L petrol and 2.7XDI model. things that i need to know these 2 models are:
1) yearly roadtax
2) fuel consumption
3) timing belt or timing chain
4) between 2.8L petrol and 2.7XDI which would you recommend?
5) what are the basic improvement between 2.7XDI (I) and 2.7XDI (II)?
appreciate your help. thank you.

go for rx270xdi. newer engine, better torque, less fuel, easily tweak for more power, it use timing chain, yearly road tax about rm1150.
2.7xdi(1) - rexton 1 all are fully imported between 2004 and early 2007 , rexton 2 assemble in pekan I think until 2008/2009 , now rexton 2 new are fully imported too.
rex 1 luxury spec will have more toys to play compare to rex 2 but sometime if unlucky will have all sort of check light issue.

Check Engine light is warning indicator if there is problem in the engine compartment detected by ECU. During your test drive, make sure the Check Engine light is not black out when you ON the key and the light is off before you start engine.

You can download the Owner Manual from http://www.mediafire...c1c3kg811lqnj63 that show the location of all lights in dashboard.
Check Engine Light up indicating issues required attention and log the error code for diagnosis. How big is the problem depends on what causing the light up. Lots of them are minor. If major problem, the ECU will auto cut power that you can't drive above 80kmh to protect the engine.

If there are more active Captiva members taking lead, I am sure many other Captiva owners would be joining soon. Such a waste for a nice SUV
