Last night, my 2008/09 Rondo EXS suddenly loss power steering assistance and the brake and battery warning lights came on.
It really gave me a fright.
I pulled on the brake release lever and the ligfhts went off and steering became normal.
This happened again a few km later.
Can anyone hazard a guess as to what theproblem might be?
In any case, pls recommended a good workshop in the Cheras/Kuala Lumpur area as the Cheras Naza Kia workshop has moved or closed down.
Thanks a bunch!
Lose weight HOW? ask me NOW !

what do u mean loss power steering? Is there any leakage on your power steering or any shortage of power steering fluid? Recently i just repair my power steering. This are the symptom that i shared under this thread. Post no.14

Rondo 09 saya juga baru mengalami masalah yang sama. same exactly brake & battery warning lights came on dan power steering terus tidak berfungsi. luckily masa kejadian at low speed 20-40km/h. ianya berlaku sekejap lebih kurang 15 saat tapi cukup menakutkan sekiranya that time travelling at higher speed.

telah berlaku 2 kali situation ini . both happened during wading air (hujan) lebih kurang 3-4 inci. buat masa ini saya suspect Traction Control / Electronic Stability Control pre-matured activating.

Klimal,..if you found what the cause...please share this. expert2..please advice

Rondo does not have Traction Control or ESP, only ABS.
I sent the car to the Chan Sow Lin SC twice and both times, they coundn't detect any fault.
They reset the ECU and on the second visit, I raised a stink.
They then said they will make an appointment with the Technical Team to look into my issue.
Today is the 2nd day since, am still waiting for their call.
I spoke to the foreman and he was also lost. Initially said the belt was slipping from water contact but this also happened on a dry day.
Then he made a call and after that, he said it could be the ABS pump.
Now the car sits at home, my wife dare not drive it as it happened 4 times during the last drive, while it was raining. smile_angry.gif smile_angry.gif smile_angry.gif

if the belt was slipping, solutionnya tentu mudah. just tighten it back. only if the cause is another worst thing...saya tak ada pilihan kecuali terpaksa memandu juga sebab tak ada 2nd car. only to be more carefull when rainy.

about the ESP, that what i ve believed it to be included in malaysian market since foreign model all include it. see australian rondo http://www.zercustom...ia-Rondo-7.html

Oversea standard is different with Malaysia... safety is their main priority. If u cannot comply to their standard, u cannot sell your car there..

Hello Rondorian,

Whoever has the solution for this Sudden Loss of Power Stering problem, please share here.

My Rondo already encountered this incident quite a number of times 100% during heavy rain. The problem is I personally never encounter this kind of problem only happened when my wife drove it back from work so I cant tell exactly what actually happened but from wife explaination seems tally with you guys problem in this thread.

Thank you.

1) IA RONDO YEAR 07 POWER STEERING FREEZES IN WET WEATHER DUE TO MOISTURE SPRAYING ON THE POWER STEERING BELT CAUSING SLIPPAGE. MANUFACTURER HAS IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM VERBALLY, BUT REFUSES TO CORRECT OR DOCUMENT THE PROBLEM IN WRITING.

2) Maybe try replacing the drive belt everyone. I changed mine out and noticed that despite the belt looking fine on the outside, the underside was sticky with grease and gum. So was the entire side of my engine block. I think someone spilled a lot of oil and managed to get some on the belt causing it to degrade rapidly. Once I changed the belt, a funny little noise I used to hear when the A/C was on is now gone. Another funny little noise I used to hear when I would give throttle from a dead stop is gone. I've driven through some puddles lately and so far so good. That used to be a problem. Even the slightest bit of water would cause me to loose steering, A/C and alternator.

___________

put bigger cover below the engine to avoid moisture goes to the belt.

Wow its happening worldwide and KIA keep eye closed 689.gif Should have calling for recall worldwide..

Jun 14, 2012 - Monroe, NC - Steering
ON 5-9-2012, IT WAS RAINING HEAVILY. MY RONDO, WHICH DROVE FINE THE DAY BEFORE AND THE DAY AFTER, STARTED MAKING A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE AND THE STEERING BECAME VERY "TIGHT" FEELING. I PULLED OFF ROAD INTO A PARKING LOT, AND WHEN I DID EXPERIENCED TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. I CAME VERY CLOSE TO CRASHING INTO THE PARKED CAR BESIDE ME AS A RESULT. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES, RESTARTED THE CAR. PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE, MY VEHICLE BRAKES ENGAGED SUDDENLY WITHOUT NOTICE, AND MY SON AND I WERE GRABBED BY OUR SEAT BELTS AS OUR BODIES WERE THROWN FORWARD SO HARD. I WAS BLOCKING TRAFFIC SO I RESTARTED THE CAR, AND IT DROVE OK ON A STRAIGHT ROAD, BUT WHEN I TURNED, AGAIN LOST STEERING. WHEN I SAY LOSS OF POWER STEERING, I MEAN WITH ALL MY MIGHT I COULDN'T GET THE CAR TO GO WHERE I WANTED. THE RAIN STOPPED AND I HAD NO FURTHER PROBLEMS UNTIL YESTERDAY, 6-13-12, WHEN IT HAD BEEN RAINING AGAIN. THIS TIME, PULLING ONTO A BUSY ROAD, MOVING QUICKLY DUE TO THE APPROACHING TRAFFIC, AND AGAIN LOST ALL ABILITY TO STEER. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO SLAM ON MY BRAKES AND GO IN REVERSE TO GET OUT OF THE PATH OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC, BUT HAD THE CIRCUMSTANCES BEEN DIFFERENT, MY YOUNG CHILDREN AND I COULD HAVE SUFFERED A CATASTROPHE. NHTSA HAD TWO SIMILAR REPORTS WITH THE 2007 RONDO: INTERNAL SEQUENCE NUMBER #736XXX DATED 8-23-09 AND #749XXX DATED 12/2/2009. I HOPE NHTSA AND/OR KIA ADDRESSES THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED. "PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION (FOIA), 5 U.S.C.552 (cool.gif(6).
