Should'nt be needed even in hotter climates, (P1 and previously Mitsubishi would have both tested it.)
An exception would be if the car is subject to high-strain useage like towing whilst fully laden at high speeds/temperatures.

just today,i found out some weird noise like *creakkk* that when shifting R > N and N > D... this happen even the engine is completely turn off and sames goes when engine is running... when i free play the gear by shifting R > N and N > D .. but driving time, the gears shift up and down smoothly without any problem.. even i rev the car the upshift and downshifts of every gear seems to be smooth.... just changed my ATF Fluid 3k previously... car mileage is 101k and driving a persona...

is just the shift to R to N and only D to N makes the creakkkk noise....

*after taking out for a spin...the sound seems gone for R to N for now...

not too sure which sound you are referring but, its common to hear the noise from the gearbox due to the dunno what operating in there to shift when you move from P to R or from N or D to R. You can hear it pretty clearly if your engine is not started and you switch on the ignition and you shift the gear. Its normal.

Just to add something to this old thread. Not many people realize that the Proton Persona is fitted with one of the most reliable gearbox in the world. It is also fitted in Chrysler, Mitsubishi & Hyundai. I'm impressed with its performance & respond. To get the best out of it, I use the best Synthetic ATF manufactured by AMSOIL. Although the price is 3 times higher than Proton SPIII ATF, that is never an issue to me. I use imported & high quality spare parts, engine oil, ATF, belts, filters etc. By using high quality products, it gives me peace of mind.
