anyone here planning to down size the rims from 18 to 17 inch and replace with the equivalent tyres size? this could improve on the pick up by reducing the weight from the original 18 inch rims... also 17 inch tyres are slightly cheaper compared to 18, if in future when u replace all 4 tyres...

yes rim 17inch is better fc and pick up...but not match the sportage body...look too small for 17inch

No doubt if we look at price vs. features, this sportage wins hands down when compared to any other offering in the market. What I'm more concerned is the core fundamentals of a good car - reliability (engine, transmission, suspension, etc.), FC, handling and safety.

For safety, this car is earning 5 stars from euroncap and that already won my confidence.
The FC however isn't much to shout about. Other forummers showing 10L/100km for a mostly highway travel which is rather poor.
Unsure about handling unless I go test drive one.
Reliability is a question mark for everyone and we'll know in 5 years time.

Overall, I do see Korean cars are improving. It's a good sign as that provides more alternatives to our car market in M'sia.

Fc not very poor. Its great for the type of handling offered
i drive a chervolet optra way better handling than a vios, or a city as this are the same segment pricing
the optra is solid built than jap car. I know i had 3 major repairs with it the other cars were very much worse off than mine. Latest accident i bang a camry 2007 model at 20kmh. Front part just need to knock out, camry bumper had a tear and crack and had to change a new bumper

on my optra i pump Rm100 i get around 430-460km in city.
for the kia in city i pump rm95 i get around 498-510. Pump 2 times already same ratio.
on the highway in the kia i get 8.5L/100km before 1K service
if you view the Euro Ncap testing video the kia body is very solid, compare even to the hyundai you can see the flexing is very much less. the transfer of energy is more uniform. Plus with the 18 " tyres is great in terms of petrol consumption. If you can buy a car at this range whats rm20 more per tank for safety and handling. even for a month how much more do you need to pump. A same comparision a honda crv is worse, hadly moves and drinks more petrol. In terms of FC its should be apple to apple when doing comparing. I think the tucson should be slightly better fc due to the slightly lighter body and smaller rims

On reliability you guess is has good as mine. So far they seem to be above what i had expected. If you are going to buy kia, you need to lower your bar. if not buy a crv. But if you ask me what's so great above must service every 5K. TO me thats not a reliable engine as need to go in so often. If you open up kia sportage service book, recommended service is 15K not 10K as Kia malaysia ask you to do so. I drive both CRV 2007 and KIa and my dinky optra

for the motor oil i was advised to stick to full syn. For this type of performance stick with full syn. Even my optra was using full syn until 60k. Its about Rm100 less if you get semi syn though. they use petronas 3000 grade. Now come with free blue tooth. i use full syn because my time cost to send it the car for additional service already more than RM100

that's not correct, you must use the "severe operating conditions" service schedule, one of which is driving in high ambient temperatures ie above 30C which is our climate, hence more frequent service interval.

honda crv is 125mm longer than sportage, 45mm taller than sportage, 35mm narrower than sportage, overall is bigger than sportage externally, but still uses 17 inch rims with 65 thick tyres. do u think the crv looks weird with the 17 inch rims??

YES...my answer...
that is consider small to me...
My other car Persona also upgrade to 18inch already
If u want ur sportage downgrade to...
Dont said 17inch, 16inch also can if u want
For me CUV,SUV,Crossover upgrade to bigger wheel at least 19/20inch
But as u said u want better pickup, cheaper tyre, 16inch is best to you laugh.gif
Not forgetting to free u a photo...enjjoy

*REMARKS..that sportage is on US standard LX model 16inch rim and CRV on 17inch

Reliability wise of the Theta 2.0 & 2.4, you could always refer to Sonata NF that has been around locally since Q4 of 2006. It has been 5 years now and proven reliable. Check with Sonata NF owners to find out.
