Yes this vibration issue been repeated many times in another similar thread. Probably mod here can merge this wth existing thread.

I came from Honda and yes, Stock Sonata vibrate worst than my older Civic FD1 when I test drove the car and even decided to buy haha.. Anyway, it's just slight vibration-lah. I got it reduced tremendously by Autofoam comfort. Now, I can say that the vibration level already equal to my old Civic FD1. Anyway, mind you Civic FD1 score lower interm of othyer comfort level compare to Sonata except the vibration problem.

From the overall built of the car, My Theory (Well from my personal opinion h:smile_blush: )

1- The small Hydraulic mounting compare wth the gigantic hydraul;ic mounting in Civic / nissan cars
2 - Theta II engine was based on Mitsubishi/US ... Mitsubishi engine is famous for loud & hard shaking - just like old protons.
3 - The idle RPM..yeah really low- ~ 625 rpm..This highly resulted in higher vibration

Anyway, I'm pretty happy now as the vibration is almost cured wth Autofoam. Well, I can't say 100% but to the level of my old Civic haha

Hi Bro, what does the autofoam do? How does it reduce the vibration?

Forgot to ask Adrian, does your 2.4 Sonata have the same engine vibration?

if you can make it tmrw at 2pm, you can try my car so see if you experience any excessive vibration.. actually so far i haven't noticed much except when i'm stepping on the brake and turning the steering at the same time...

autofoam will strengthen the chassis and reduce the torsional flex to a degree.. since it fills up most of the gaps in the frame, there is less noise resonance.. the car feels instantly more composed.. it's like the first time after installing anti-roll bars... the difference is instantaneously felt...

Bro I was just testing la, mana tahu the engine really cut off. If I am correct, by right the engine should not cut off if the car is moving.

BTW where are you guys meeting tomorrow and what time?

agree bro! I also want to complain, I dont mind paking my car there for 3 days provided:
1. they solve my issues
2. give me a spare car for 3 days

somehow or rather, I dont kind of believe with "asuurance", wat can they do when accident happens? nothing right?

thinking about it, I agree that the little things like the poorer engine refinement, noise inside out, potential suddent stop while driving, crazy gear upshifting and downshifting really piss me off. and I start to ask me a question, would it be better for me to buy a camry last time? afterall, the head turner is no longer turning heads after many on the road.

well, not to say I dont like my car anymore, but given the choice, and comparison, I may think twice......sigh..[/quote]

hope you guys dont mind if I join as well. this engine vibration annoys me and I also feel that it is no longer as quiet and as smooth as it was during the first month.

Hope you've not given up hope on your ride!

To me all car makes have their own shortcoming... even those well reputated ones. I have heard Merc B class gearbox failed in less than 5 yrs (FYI the owner never took the car beyond its limit) and a BMW 3 series started giving lots of electronic failures at its 5th year and has to go to the workshop every now and then with average monthly repair bill of RM 1,000. wacko.gif

I am sure Toyota (and Honda) have their problems too but the advantage of them to me at this moment as compared to Hyundai is these models have been in the market for a while hence the availability of more skilled mechanics (with better knowledge in their technologies) for these brands. Hyundai/Kia has just started to shine globally with its current generation i.e. Forte, Sonata YF, Tucson, Avante therefore the relatively limited technical knowledge at the SC to rectify & resolve problems on our rides. My 2 cents happy.gif

I think the most serious issue here is the potential engine cut-off while cruising/driving. I hope HSDM can really resolve this and be transparent in communicating it to all owners. If needed... call for a "product update". I am sure if they are honest to admit the problem and are genuine in resolving it, it will gain the heart & confidence of the consumers rather than jeopardizing it...

Meanwhile back to the vibration problem... I really want to know how much the autofoam can help to improve the comfort level of the ride (I can live with it at this moment but if there is a way to improve, why not) so I hope if guys you don't mind me joining tomorrow (or is it today now? tongue.gif) as well...

Very well said. Honestly speaking I still enjoy driving my car, however these shortcomings can be rather annoying. It could be maybe there is Toyota and Honda cars for us to compare to, n when we seat in those cars it makes us compare to anything that is lesser than the expectation of what we Malaysians want. You can call it fussyness but any nation that has grown, the expectations of their citizens grow with it. I mean look at the Americans when it comes to human rights and the right to use quality products.

All in all, I am quite please with Sime Darby's customer care line. They do really read all messages which are submitted thru their website. This is a plus point for them. I do really hope they can help resolve or reduce the vibration. Perhaps by forking out a bit for the autofoam, I could reduce the vibration. But the concern of the engine cut-off is still there. I'm asking myself if the ECU upgrade will resolve this problem. I do really hope so.

Hey bro of course you are welcome here to add your comments on this vibration. We all know as any car ages, the car will vibrate more, but not when the car is less than a year old right? If the Sonata was 2 or more years old, I wouldn't be complaining in this forum n most of our cars are less than or about a year old. If I could recall, my Toyota Altis 1.6 only started to feel slight vibration on the steering wheel after 1.5 years, but I am feeling the vibration on my Sonata's steering wheel at 9 months!!! It does annoy n makes the pleasure of driving lesser. Perhaps I'm a fussy owner but that's me when it comes to cars, I just want to feel great when driving a car. But overall, this is a very good car n would still recommend people to buy it.
