tpl & TSIJetta & br1: I thank you for your opinion indeed. It further reiterates that I have to do the 10k km interval service. Thank you for the service shop contacts. I intend to look after the car beautifully!

br1: Now I am tempted to test drive the Golf GTi! What do you like about the Golf compared to the S40? Who in your family will be driving it? I have driven the Golf sedan in London (rented one) and it is beautiful but sadly it is not sold here. Anyone knows if it is coming to our shore soon, this Golf sedan?

V406198: Yes, I am referring to the new powershift S40 2.0 petrol version. And you have given me a much greater insight into Volvo. You have indeed. But the car does not come with the 5 year free service! Only comes with 5 years warranty. Which is your preferred volvo btw .. just curious! Hope I didn't kill any feline!

Two more questions dear forumers:

1. Which VOlvo centre is preferred to purchase and for later servicing? Glenmarie? Swedish Marque? Seputeh Volvo?

2. What about spare parts? Are they difficult to come by?

Funny...wonder which's Volvo sale center given you the inform of new s40 only with 5 years warranty instead of both warranty & free service ? you can refer to below link for the offer of both for new S40..

http://www.mudah.my/...ICE-9111941.htm

which Volvo i prefered ? of cause will be Volvo Wagon ! once as the Wagon owner (V40) will forever a Wagon fan, but unfortunately i can't afford the newer V50 so have to settle down with my S60 for time being..until the yet to launch V60 are in the used car market then will getting one.

To be honest, both swedish marque(SM) and federal auto (FA) are both the same interms of car maintenance services and also parts & labour pricing but some how SM @ sungai besi had provided better customer service so far...so i will go for SM even thought my ex-V40 was brought from FA.

During 5 years warranty period, you are only allow to used only original Volvo parts otherwise warranty will be void. so you should get the source from only Volvo authorised dealers ( all parts with warranty) instead of outsider Volvo parts seller ( is cheaper BUT parts sold without warranty).. after the 5 years warranty period over, only then you can start sourcing the parts from those outsider Volvo parts traders ( there are many of them in Klang valley) and normally their pricing are cheaper by 40-50% if compare to authorised dealers, and also normally their will keep the common parts in sufficent stock level for all Volvo models from old models like 240 to the newer models like XC90/S60/S80/S40/V50.. so parts are never a problem... but you have to be prepare mentally to accept the Volvo parts pricing are in high side if compare to japanese/korea/local car parts pricing like what br1 had mentioned..but again there is alway a alternative sources with OEM Volvo parts ( parts without Volvo logo )with more affortable pricing that with reasonable quality control that will save lots for your wallet..

btw, i do ageed with bro tpl, if you do like Jetta ( Golf version of sedan) you should wait for the local assembly mk5.5 Jetta model (or 2012 totally new model) to roll out soon on either this year or next and sure it will give better value of car and also refinement of the design quality if compare to S40 that had been around the markets coming to 8 years by now.

You meant Golf GTI or TSi ( Golf 1.4TSi is Mk6 as what they claimed) you meant also in 2012 all-new entirely?

Correct current version is MK6. TSI or GTI still MK6. but the MK6 is based on MK5 platform and more like a major facelift only. MK6 launched in 2009 and 2012 tak kan another all-new ma. So current MK6 is more like a MK5.5 since its based on MK5. We all still call it MK6. Just like what is happening to Passat now. B6-B7 more like B6.5

Hello all,

I am new here. Just a background about me, I am seriously considering S40 and my loan was approved today. They do offer 5 years warranty + 5 free service OR outright discount about RM8k.

I have to ask @scrooge91 whether did you finally get the S40 or the VW? : )

I have tested S40 about 4 times and I know the car is very much underpowered (145hp with 1.5tons kerb) and i am very concern if i'd like to drive the S40 at about say 130km/h to 150km/h, do you think i will be disappointed?

I was informed S60 CKD will be launched later this year but the price will be around RM250k, which is a bit too much for me. So, if given that i can choose any other car that cost about RM175k, what other car do you recommend? I have considered Camry, Accord, Mazda6 but wife will give her green light in S40 only! How!? Hehehhehe...

Appreciate your comments/advice.

Rgds

if you can wait slightly longer toward end of this year or early next year, you might have new model CKD camry, CKD WV passat (this might slight over your budget) or later Jetta for your choice...

Malaysian consumer mentality.....that focus on resale value. Of course the distributor also to be blamed for poor A&P and lousy pricing. As a result, certain cars cannot sell, and dealers have no choice but to give discount in an effort to move the cars. Do check the FORD Thread and you will see a bunch of happy Mondeo owners.

Yes, Mondeo are indeed a good car, was awarded with many international awards. it had share some common parts with Volvo S60 ( the previous model) & also current Jaguar XF... just over here it was understatus by many local buyers... smile_disapprove.gif i will say it's a good buy if compare to Volvo S40...
