br1: Now I am tempted to test drive the Golf GTi! What do you like about the Golf compared to the S40? Who in your family will be driving it? I have driven the Golf sedan in London (rented one) and it is beautiful but sadly it is not sold here. Anyone knows if it is coming to our shore soon, this Golf sedan?
V406198: Yes, I am referring to the new powershift S40 2.0 petrol version. And you have given me a much greater insight into Volvo. You have indeed. But the car does not come with the 5 year free service! Only comes with 5 years warranty. Which is your preferred volvo btw .. just curious! Hope I didn't kill any feline!
Two more questions dear forumers:
1. Which VOlvo centre is preferred to purchase and for later servicing? Glenmarie? Swedish Marque? Seputeh Volvo?
2. What about spare parts? Are they difficult to come by?
Funny...wonder which's Volvo sale center given you the inform of new s40 only with 5 years warranty instead of both warranty & free service ? you can refer to below link for the offer of both for new S40..

which Volvo i prefered ? of cause will be Volvo Wagon ! once as the Wagon owner (V40) will forever a Wagon fan, but unfortunately i can't afford the newer V50 so have to settle down with my S60 for time being..until the yet to launch V60 are in the used car market then will getting one.
To be honest, both swedish marque(SM) and federal auto (FA) are both the same interms of car maintenance services and also parts & labour pricing but some how SM @ sungai besi had provided better customer service so far...so i will go for SM even thought my ex-V40 was brought from FA.
During 5 years warranty period, you are only allow to used only original Volvo parts otherwise warranty will be void. so you should get the source from only Volvo authorised dealers ( all parts with warranty) instead of outsider Volvo parts seller ( is cheaper BUT parts sold without warranty).. after the 5 years warranty period over, only then you can start sourcing the parts from those outsider Volvo parts traders ( there are many of them in Klang valley) and normally their pricing are cheaper by 40-50% if compare to authorised dealers, and also normally their will keep the common parts in sufficent stock level for all Volvo models from old models like 240 to the newer models like XC90/S60/S80/S40/V50.. so parts are never a problem... but you have to be prepare mentally to accept the Volvo parts pricing are in high side if compare to japanese/korea/local car parts pricing like what br1 had mentioned..but again there is alway a alternative sources with OEM Volvo parts ( parts without Volvo logo )with more affortable pricing that with reasonable quality control that will save lots for your wallet..
btw, i do ageed with bro tpl, if you do like Jetta ( Golf version of sedan) you should wait for the local assembly mk5.5 Jetta model (or 2012 totally new model) to roll out soon on either this year or next and sure it will give better value of car and also refinement of the design quality if compare to S40 that had been around the markets coming to 8 years by now.
