Hi,

I saw an ad in Mudah selling Elegan 150 cc at RM 5858. The shop is Arif motor something at Jalan Kapar, Klang. I called up and they said total OTR price will be RM 6200.

Anybody got any experience with the shop? Is it a good price?

I bought my VTS there b4 Raya. The shop is ok if you buy bikes only but not service. Go to MMR Shah Alam or Zul Pachi in Jalan Kebun.

I bought my Modenas Elegan in Nov 2004. Mileage 28000kms

1) Now i got this non stop tik tik tik tik tik sound coming from meter display board. Only when the bike running. Speedometer,Odometer function Ok except for a little shaky speedometer needle. Is that a sign that something going to happen or happening.

2) Since the time I bought the bike, I have not service the brake and its still working, is that OK?.

3) I have no experience of asking the mechanic to charge my bike battery. Whenever the battery seems to be weak, I'll straightaway change to new one, Normally average per battery is 1 year. Should I charge weak battery rather than straightaway buy new one?. I have seen in this forum where members use one battery for up to three years. I am worry that I have to push the bike on the road after having charged it and that is why I straightaway change a new one. Today I change one a brand new. The mechanic said KOYOKO is a very good brand not using water but gel. Its 9A and cost RM120.00. Is my understanding and perception on battery is correct.

4) I change blackoil every 1500Km is that a waste?

5) I change the gearoil every 3000km is that normal?

6) I have never done anything to the radiator. It is still functioning good. Never went up to 3 bar and seldom two. Alway at one bar. Should I do soemthing to the radiator like have it serviced.

7) My principle is never touch anything anything that doesn't trouble you.

8) Is the 250 or 200 SYM ok? CAn we easily manouver through trafic jam especially through tight areas between 2 cars especially between rear and front of two cars closed within each other at the traffic light.

Please advise me if you can. I would appreaciate it much especilly with too many question asked., I alway have difficulty in understand automobile technically.

Thanks in advance

For question 1-7, you can log in to http://forum.eleganeers.net/ for further guide from the experts there. I just bought elegan 150october this year and doing engine oil change every 2000km and I just change the gear oil everytime I change the engine oil. I am sure most poeple will ask you to service the brakes / coolant as well. For question number 8, actually I am considering the same option as you to upgrade the elegan. For a beginner biker like me and biking every day at Jalan Ampang / Jalan Sultan Ismail every day, I personally think the width of the elegan is still ok to maneuver between the cars. While the VTS and 250 EVO are inches wider than the elegan, I am not sure if that is a bit tricky or not to go between front and rear of cars in jam packed roads. I think other people who actually own the scooter can help with this.

But I really like the looks and the huge LED of SYM VTS 200 if you compare with the Modenas Elegan 200. For safety reasons of course.

Hi Eleganers... I am noob an d just recently purchased a 150 Elegan. I did not know that this model was already more than 7years old. If I knew, would have opted for the newer 200. Anyway, wife forced me into getting one.

Problem noticed the 2days after brought home from Kapar Motors in Kapar, Klang.
Luckily I managed to ride the bike home to Shah Alam that night.

The next day, tried to start...chokingly the bike started and I rode out with my wife!!
600m out from the house....engine died and I could not re-start the enginer. Electric or Kick... neither worked.
Had to push the bike all the way home... Imagine pushing this bike back in the hot sun, mind you.

Called Modenas immediately, and they sent the mobile service to house (evening) to perform a check and service.
Mechanic mentioned that the carb has choked and required servicing (this is due to "dirty" petrol sitting inside the tank. I suspected this bloddy Kapar Motor is unscrupulous con-men, duping customers who only interested to purchase kapcai/mini bikes! They are specialist for superbikes by the way. So they super layan customers who are interested in super bikes as the profit margin is greater!).

After 2 rounds of service and finally they replaced the carb, my problem do still persist. Experienced again another push back but this time nearer though.
Got fed-up and I personally up the timing to be "200rpm" (at idling).

This is also not fully resolve as I do indeed require 10min each time I start up and keep revving the engine (up to 800rpm) until the thermo registers 2bar!

Help/advice I need from sifus here are
(1) is it normal to face issues like this?
(2) will I ever have the confidence to ever take the bike further out of my housing area without fear of engine stall and not able to re-start?
(3) I cannot leave engine at idle at traffic lights and the engine might die. So I have to keep revving always.
(4) whenever I tekan the brake handle on the right, there is a "sonic" sound. Is that normal? (left does not emit a sound though)

PS: I am indeed losing interest in initially a good buy and a practical transportation!

Hi Bro,

I bought Elegan 150 beginning of this year. So far the bike running well without any problem.
At time's i do face starting prob but in the 2nd or 3rd attempt bike will start up.

Better if you send the bike to SC to do a health check.
Something is wrong with you bike it might be fuel pump filters.

Thanks

Hi,
I also facing this problem. Could not get my elegan to start at all.. This is really frustrating. Try kick start/Electric start until my battery "kong" still could not get it started.

Really need all sifu's advise and help regarding this problem..what should we do, what should we checked?

Hi, Hi to all Sifus, I've read Elegan praises from day One this forum is set up and watch Youtube videos of Elegan prowess. I got bitten by the scooter bug- sold off my 2001 Suzuki Epicuro UC 150 and bought this second hand Jul 2004 Sym 200 Joyride Evo at SGD$900 (i'm a SGP netizen). Huh a bit tatty, washed and polished 3 times and wonderfully shined out. Got it on 16 Mar 2011 though, a late bloomer to enjoy last 7 years or so other Elegan riders had enjoyed. Anyway it comes with a broken kick starter shaft, bearings for rear wheel and main shaft worn, carburetor need repair replacement set, speedo worm gear worn, fuel filler rubber cup broken, rear brake caliper slider worned out and pads too.
Rode out on day I bought only 20 metres engine kaput, push back to bike shop, had the fuel removed from tank and WATER was flushed out by air compressor gun. Found out scooter was laid up for 6 months in bikeshop forecourt, so probably water slowly sips in through the broken fuel filler broken cup.???
So my parts got replaced and anyway got 24km/l worst and 34km/l best depends on speed
Upgrades done- HID 8000k H4 headlamp bulb, white SMED LED strips to front fairing, Power Abuser 2, Broquet fuel charger, Pirelli tires, larger windshield, 4 in 1 digital gauges for voltmeter, inside/outside temperature and clock
air horns, rear 3rd brake lights and blue LED idiot light, rear box and restpad.
On stand by parts to fix up-GPR Streetfighter Exhaust, Closed pod air intake filter system, YSS new rear suspensions
uuuuupppsss for all Elegan and SYM scooter riders....me a newbie here, apologies for any unforth remarks made...cheers

As a user for Sym, I also had this prroblem-what i did was press the brake lever twice, twist the throttle a bit. on the second press, press it hard as much you can and hit the starter button. It did the trick, well u can try la, but it works for me all the time...cheers smile_big.gif

Hi all, I've just bought a brand new 150 Elegan, last week. So far no starting probs. But i normally just twist the throttle 1-2x and hit the starter button. Bike starts up with no hassle.

I used to own a Naza Gemilang scooter. I believe that maintenance is the key here, and not to over abuse your ride as well.

Cheers
