Inspira Free Service Interval

I just got my wife's Inspira 2.0 White. Booked 19.10.2010. That's almost 5 months waiting. Only really started to chase after CNY.

I was going through the 2 Year Free Service Voucher Booklet. 1st voucher is 1000km.

The 2nd voucher is for 10000km or 6 months, whichever comes first
The 3rd Voucher is 20000km or 12 months, whichever comes first
The 4th Voucher is 30000km or 18 months, whichever comes first
The 5th Voucher is 40000km or 24 months, whichever comes first

My wife normally does about 16000km per year or 8000km every 6 months.

Therefore based on "whichever comes first", I should be able to service her car every 6 months at 8000km? Any thots?

I would be more comfortable doing it at 6 months at 8000km esp as we are only given semi synthetic ie Syntium 800 during the free service.

Anorher intersting point is that Proton is actually giving 3 years warranty...see service booklet. Kudos Proton, even better than BMW Malaysia.

For the service vouchers, I would recommend that you go ahead with 'whichever comes first'. But once past that, I usually go with servicing based on mileage regardless of time.

Thanks Gunner. At 6 months my wife may hit 8000km. Is that ok for Synthium semi synthetic?

It shouldn't be a problem. The recommended oil change intervals for semi-syn is 7,500km. 8,000km pushes it a little, but it should be fine.

The No.1 rubbish perpetrated in Malaysian motor forum is, Fully Synthetic can last longer than Mineral. No such thing.

That is why if you read official car service manual, they will only say things like "service after how many month or how many kilometer". They don't say Synthetic service at 10,000-km and Mineral at 5,000-km etc.

I've just read my RX300 manual last week. It require 0w30 or 5w30 at interval of 10K km. Never indicate FS or mineral.

AFAIK, you will not find a 0W30 Mineral from any reputable oil company. None are produced.

Actually, that is a bad idea. Oils degrades and break up over time. So if you are planning to keep your car for a long period, do the service every 6 months, even if the mileage is not up yet. Gear oils and engine oils, these things don't cost too much, but can give your car a very long life....especially gearbox in Inspira, which use CVT .....the manual says 80k, but the Lancer manual is saying 40k....most Lancer owners change it every 35k to 40k. I suggest all Inspira owners do the same.....40k or 2 years, whichever first. CVT gearbox is expensive...no joke.....you'll want it to be in tip top condition.

Even things like tyres, after 4 years, not recommended to use because the tyre's will hardened. I just got 2 of my tyres for my Savvy replaced, eventhough, there is still decent 'flower' on the tyre, because it's 4 years+ oready. After changing, the braking is much much better. You don't want to risk your life just to wait until the tyre botak to change tyres....
