if u have other side income other than the 2k to maintain the volvo then go ahead with the s40. s40 is a reliable car but being a 5-6yr old car u know what i mean. same goes to a 5-6yr old city. if with only 2k income i'll go for proton blm. smile_thumbup.gif

agree with tpl. once cars hit 5-6 years, it is close to the time of major servicing and maintenance to be performed. also at that age, you may need replacing of major (read as: expensive) components.

it does not mean that. regular servicing could be pretty ok if you know where to go (at 5-6 years,. you can practically go anywhere to service as it has probably passed the warranty period). but when the big ticket items come, the worse thing to happen is 1) you go back to your parents for money (not a nice idea), take a loan from friends (you run the risk of losing your friends) 3) eat ikan bilis for a whole month plus tap water or 4) take a personal loan, rack up your credit card or see an ah long (all of which damaging to your health in the long term).

perhaps, i would recommend a brand new car for you (make sure within your monthly budget) that has warranty and if possible, free servicing for a number of years. afaik, the fiesta, the mazda2 and the peugeot 207 all have free servicing for 3 years so you can spend the extra cash on holidays, dating, and generally having more cash in your savings for a new volvo later on.

not saying old volvos are bad but you do need a certain amount of income to ensure that you can maintain it well. honestly, rm2k a month is really insufficient to maintain a 5-6 year old volvo.

Hahaha... it's not the cost of Volvo maintan of rm2k or whatever..it's your rm2K salary are just little to venture yourself in to the 4-5years old Volvo or brand new Honda.. as Volvo had running out with manufacture warranty and any Honda parts replacement will eventually kill yourself in your period of ownership... so better take the advise go and get the most basic brand new national car model that will give you peace of mind on first few years of ownership and the same time you can built up your bank saving numbers to looking forward to get yourself a decent condition Volvo or Honda in few years down the road...

Thanks for enlighten me. So, better i go for national car? BLM or Alza? Btw, alza looks good and bigger. I will travel often from penang to JB, and sometimes reach 180-200kmj with my father's car.

I dont like small car like fiesta or 'not so good looking' 206. Any suggestion for buying my 1st car, wether its new car or 2nd hand car.

agreed. the build up in savings towards your new volvo could be an interesting time for you. i wish you all the best towards reaching your goal. do keep us informed of your progress though.

BLM should handle pretty well but i didn't quite like the loud engine noise. that's why i opted for the gen2 cps manual... which is not very quiet too but acceptable to me. as for the Alza, well, i have not driven it before and perhaps others could shed some light on it.

aiyo.. why young people all come out from uni, first thing is spend money on prestige car? when i first came out of uni, my first car was a third-hand nissan pulsar (1989) which i bought in 96 used for 8 years, until ECU mati, fuel pump died. buy a basic car, drive slow and invest money in getting a house first... then consider prestige car .. that's my advice. smile_wink.gif
