My friend was quite shocked to discover that her Focus needed new REAR tyres after only 20K kms of motoring. Is this normal for the Focus? What are your own experiences?

Flee

Bro, no need to be shock, since all car same, tyre care is a must for every car, so can i ask, do u rotate tyre before? and how offen u pump air to ur tyre?? this basic 2 thing will shorten ur tyre life if u don't taken care. Happy driving!

p/s: 20K is max life for performance tyre, is all depend on ur TreadWear state on ur tyre.

Goodyear NCT5 can hardly be called a performance tyre smile.gif But I concur, regular checks for uneven wear and tyre pressure helps keep the tyres in tip top shape.
There are no lousy cars. Only better cars.

The rear tyre wear faster than front is not normal especially FWD car. But if i am not mistaken, there are case for ford. Not even the rear tyre but also rear break pad. Sometimes, you can see your rear wheel is dustier than the front wheel.

I've clocked 35k km already and i've sent mine for alignment & balancing at least 3 times maybe more becoz sometimes i sent ASAP whenever i don't feel good after accidently overrun potholes and speed hump. I check tyre pressure at least every month and I did rotate twices already. So far my NCT5 still wear evenly front and back. Just waiting the best time to get my car a new shoes...

Front tire seared around 20k because of the low end night torque..... When u corner at 2,000rpm the tire wear faster than petrol car. My experience....

Thanks for all your feedback. Interesting to see madex can get more than 20K kms out of the NCT5's on the Focus. I know it can go past 40K kms on Japanese cars.

My friend is knowledgeable - check tyre pressures once a month. Wheel alignment done every 10K kms. Even asked SDAC why there is more brake dust on the rear wheels. SDAC said it is different brake pad material and nothing to worry about.

Latest update - car is now on Yokohama C-drive 2 fitted to the rear. Lets see how long this tyre will last. My friend decided to retain the Nexen N8000s in front since it can last around 25K kms. The car now has 50K kms on the clock and is on its third set of tyres.

Flee

Flee, my first NCT5 (made in phinoy) last about 40k km with patient. Subsequently, with power upgrade and a lot of highspeed highway, I hardly get 30k km. Now pass 100k km and i am going for 4th set next month.

Mine at 20k KM now still fine, rotation every 10k km... The tyre wear is indeed more than other car due to the car's weight ( at 1440kg the tdci is no featherweight, almost the same weight as most D segment sedan ), the front tyre wear will be more alarming. Rotation and regular tyre pressure check will be fine

No such thing. I had one for five years until I sold the car last year.

I ditched the OEM NCT5 as soon as I got the car. Changed to Falken 452 and later to Yokohama S-drive. The tyres lasted about 35,000 km before replacement.

Bad wheel alignment, over-inflation and under-inflation will shorten tyre lifespan. :-)
