sifu, i had been prefer to drive manual car to mountainous areas so that i can use engine braking....

however this cny, i will be driving an auto car to mt kinabalu, wish to ask the following Question...

honda car nowadays only have D or S (gear selection, that u can play with the paddle shift)..... in descending from a hills, if i use paddle shift to downshift the gear to 4 or 3.... the engine high rpm will rapidly push the gear into higher gear ie 4 or 5....

how can i apply engine braking in this kind of situation?

I thought using paddle shifter means manual? You choose the gear you want, right?
Using my wife's Tiggo which have strp-tonic. It downshift by itself when speed is slow, but up shift have to be down manually..

current gen civic, should be cvt....

i did try to drive fast, then downshift using paddle shift, the car will slow down a bit but within seconds it will auto upshift cos the rpm is high...... (i did not apply brake)...

i am concern mt kinabalu is mountaineous areas... if brake all the way down, the brake will become v hot and might run the risk of fading..... this is the first time of my life to drive an auto car there..... smile_tongue.gif

For Civic I think is auto. Only previous CT is CVT and current CT is back to auto.
I try to check with friends with Civic.

Confirm already. On paddle shifting, down shift is auto is speed slows down, but up shift is manual even up to red line.... smile_thumbup.gif

for mine, when i shift down, it will not auto upshift... even the rpm is high...
But when u are in high rpm, intend to shift down, it will not let u to do so (to protect ur gb)... so... NO FUN~~~ smile_blackeye.gif
