rally is more interesting than road racing, i must admit. but u need a big team as well as very good bank account balance.

first its the car. not that FWD cant do rally, but RWD drivetrain shows how the power is delivered better. of coz, 4WD is the king there.

second, the back-up team

third, the logistics (tools, spare parts and other necessary equipment like tent)

fourth, the luxury of time.... which many and many people do not have. sighh... dry.gif

1st:car:in malaysia..any car join rally...(as well as other country too)....its just need a proper safety issue to be prepared such as rollcage, brake, suspension, seats, harness, fire extinghuisher, main power cut-off switch, sump guard and tank guard......well this is the main issue for most ppl to join rally....preparing the car smile_sleepy.gif while actually its just similiar to preparing a track racing car.....

2nd:back-up team (your loyal workshop/mechanic to help u in service) minimum 3person who know well in quick repair and troubleshoot a car's problem (both electrical and mechanical)

3rd:logistic/tools/parts:well if u happen to have a good supporting crew these parts and tool not really a big problem..sometimes we often do borrow from other big team's part and paid accordingly if we used that part (return back as it is if not used)...and also sometime we do hitch ride their trailer to rally event (ofcourse pay but with many car sharing then the cost somewhat more affordable <<<pls do make good friend during rally...this is half PR half motorsports spirit smile_shy.gif

3rd:luxury of time:normally in big rally event they last for about 4-5days (WRC last around a week somewhere similiar to F1 party) so pls arrange your leaves accordingly with your employer...normally rally malaysia last about 3days (rally sprint 2days only).....(yeah u have to sacrifice your annual leaves) smile_big.gif somemore, you need to spare your weekend time to practice as well as gain trust/co-ordination with your driver/co-driver..this is very important in deciding a rally finish or stuck in the drain.....

4th:passion:don't try rally if u only half-hearted in it..u'll regret it.....especially when crashing/mechanical failure/losing money and wasted time when the unwanted happens....

*the best bit about rallying experience was the experience thru all the sweat n joy...

Do you by chance live around Seri Kembangan as per your Avatar description?
If you are would love to catch up for a TT session for fun hehe.
I wanna try out rallying one day but for now have to keep dreaming.
Certainly won't be able to afford to prep a competitive car to go rallying.
Just joined the rat race and it sucks.

So i presume you used to rally or still rallying?
Dont mind telling us more about yourself or atleast drop hints what car u or your dad used to rally or what teams you guys were associated with. I gather you even rallied during the the famous ROM round 15 years ago. What car were you in?

I hear lots about this Rally X thingy, is there a category open for street cars, something for the gymkhana variety of competitors to upgrade to?

yes i stay in seri kembangan (actually it was nearer to the mines shopping centre) but postcode still at seri kembangan smile_blush.gif sure can TT when free...

to prep a competitive car u need a lot of money..but to prep a qualified rally car its just a fraction of cost for a competitive car.....hint:try to look on cheap perodua car or 1.3 wira/satria..parts are plenty and quite reliable....

my dad was the old-timer of rally...i'm just getting started...but not new to rallying scene.....since i've always with my dad during rally (compete/watching)....

the list of car was long....but i'll try to put what car i know have been used...

1)ford escort mk1
2)datsun 510
3)datsun 160j sss
4)p.saga 1.5 megavalve
5)p.satria 1.6
6)p.wira 1.6
7)p.satria 1.6 (yep different car from no.5) <<and my current rally car
*8)p.satria 1.6 (u guessed it..in preparation for another car)

we've no official team....but we are based from seremban/melaka group who share the same passion....

*no i didn't compete in that ROM..i was a kid that time...and my dad also not compete for some reason i didn't know...so we go and enjoy as spectator.... (i was 25 on next year) smile_shy.gif

-the rallyX/rally sprint yes to cater who might want to get some preview of the rallying world..the format was same as actual rally...its just a bit short in stage length and number of stages.....the cost also somewhere at and affordable level....

what car did u use for rat race???where's your location?

Oh i'm only 26 this year.
Stay quite close to the Mines. Somewhere behind Macy/Minlon.

Rat Race......
LOL... took me awhile to understand u. I meant i'm working lah as a coolie.
But if u are asking what i've raced b4. Unfortunately i've raced cars twice in my whole entire life.
MME 2007 Class C in a EK9.
MME 2008 Class A in a FD2.

As for rallying, i would love to also try out that Bukit Putus events that Ignition.com organise but of late very quiet. Closest way to try out tarmac rallying.

Then u got to know me better.
smile_clown.gif
Kart racing is far more streneous, closer, more physical, and the grip generated is so much higher hehe. That equals to FUN.

It's no where close to rallying but i do enjoy going offroading a lot. Ever got yourself involved with offroading? Might be abit too slow for your taste. Notice u hang around the Peugeot threads quite often. which model do you drive?

Which offroad fellars? Now a days everyone is an offroader. hehe

The Tayu Kaki with screaming 1JZs with hopless bottom end power and all the top end at the rev limiter that churns up the track.
The overlanding guys.
The wannab3 offroaders with all the bling bling accesories from Port Klang Accesory Shops.
The Buggy comp guys that like to winch out of obstacles even when they are turned up side down.
The seasoned guys that follow the mantra of crawling over obstacles.

So many groups till i'm lost. If only you guys to see this kind of enthusiasm involved with proper sanctioned events.

I presume the 204 mid engine and driven by ppl like Ari Vattenen?
Way b4 my time.
I wonder how do they drive all the way up Pikes Peaks without a navigator.
