Hi Rextonians,

OK went to have a look at candidate #2 on my list...BHR 6882 located in Glenmarie.

Unfortunately it is difficult to find anything good to say about this car. sterb324.gif

1. Exterior condition quite poor. Grille shows signs of wear, down to bare plastic. Lots of chips on the front. Drivers door looks like it has been knocked out and maybe resprayed.
2. Oil leak seen from engine.
3. Interior condition very worn and quite shoddy, drivers seat torn, steering wheel torn and worn etc.
4. Engine needed jump starting, then quite noisy.
5. Milage which was supposed to be 90K Km in advertisement actually 230K+!
6. Rear tyres quite botak.

Basically looks like it has been a working car, which has seen a lot of hard yards. No need to test drive. Not recommended.

So...still looking for my Rexton! rolleyes.gif

Cheers
K

Don't rush to get a good one, no point wasting time and money to repair later.

We just had our TT till 5:30pm just now, 2 bros just got their Rexton few days ago. Lisma's Rexton in tip top condition, 2005 RX270XDI full accessories for about RM60k, can't remember exact price. Another bro that joining us soon got his year 2005 for RM59K in pretty good condition too.

Have you shop at Car Dealers around Batu Cave, quite a few Rexton dealer there. I am still in town till tomorrow. PM me if you scheduled viewing.

Hi Rextonians,

OK, the money is in the bank, and ready to go shopping for my Rexton! smile_thumbup.gif

Would like to ask your advise on a few candidates...basically I was looking for a 2005 2.7 xdi for 60K or less.

There were actually not too many candidates in Star, Motortrader, and Mudah which fit this criteria. Those that I found were:

RM 60K, milage 80K, 1 owner

RM 60K, milage 90K, 1 owner, service history

RM 56K, milage 160K, 2 owners, service history, just overhauled

RM 58K, milage 80K,

Would very much appreciate advise from you Rextonian sifu on whether they look reasonable...would like to shortlist 2 and go and have a look on Monday...just from the ads and pictures, looks like the first 2 are better, but would really like feedback from you

Thanks! smile_big.gif

Thanks Bro Nik,

Unfortunately the first one is sold already...

Have looked at 6 so far. Only one looks halfway decent, planning to test drive that one.
- One in Glenmarie (2005), normal spec, Horrible
- One in Ampang (2005) normal spec had engine check light on...not comfortable to take that forward
- One in Selayang (2004) normal spec, leather seats claimed full service history. Ended up actually the history was a sticker on the windscreen and power window not working!
- One in Ampang (2004) full spec, but asking for RM63K, which seems high for 2004, especially now it is almost 2011
- One in Selayang (2004) normal spec, not too bad, again asking for 63K

Can I ask opinion of other Brothers on High vs Normal spec.?

I am not too bothered about the electric seats or compass, but I understand the high spec has permanent 4WD against the low spec which is 2WD/4WH/4WL

Does this make a lot of difference to handling?

Cheers
K

Don't get confused with Full Accessories against High Spec which most dealer claim in their ads. I don't think high spec is sold in Malaysia, the model name is RX270XVT that is full time 4WD sold in Australia and western country.

Mine is full accessories, the most complete one so far that I see that comes extra with following
i. Multimeter that comes with barometer, compass, sea level height - pretty much useless unless you are lost in jungle.
ii. Auto cruise - very little use unless all Malaysia expressway upgraded to 3 lanes or you always traveling on free road.
iii. Electric and memory seat - nice to have but not really important
iv. 4 parking sensor with sensor indicator - with 2 extra sensors can be confusing as it beep if objects at side too and the indicator is not really useful.
v. Wood look alike steering and gear knob - looks nice but slippery for sweating hands.

I think that's about all the extra for full accessories. It comes in full time 2WD and 4WD on demand just like normal spec.

Thanks, that is very useful.

I believe that one of the cars I saw was full time 4WD. No 2W/4WH/4WL selector. Only 4WL, and the dealer said it was permanent 4WD. Just wondering about the handling of that vs 2WD

Cheers

Is it RX270XDI model or older model? 4WD provide better grip, thus better road handling but the fuel consumption is easily double of full time 2WD and tyre life is much shorter. You don't need full time 4WD on city or highway drive, it is meant for off-road.

the permanent 4WD is torque on demand, the power will automatically transfer to needed wheel when slip/need. but the gearbox is a bit "manja". on 2WD the tyre can last at least 60,000 km very easy, on 4WD you are lucky is can get 30,000 km( usually less)

For 270XDI Green Diesel Engine, Road tax is about RM1,100+ and insurance is depending if you have NCB (No Claim Bonus). I have got 55% NCB transferred from my other car, thus quite a bit of saving. If I remember correctly, the insurance is about RM800+ .

If you planning to get your Rexton end of the month, you should start monitor ads to find a good one at good price that usually sold out very quickly. Bro kamleman also looking for one and has viewed 6 Rextons till date, so high competition now hehehehe..

Actually I was thinking of starting a new thread "Be careful" with license plate numbers of all the (unfortunately) not good condition Rextons I have seen so far. tongue.gif Maybe will save other Bros (and the Sifus also) some time and trouble!

Bro Teerex comment on the one we viewed on Tuesday: "Horrible"

Still looking though! smile_thumbup.gif
