FYI I managed to get 600km on a full tank of fuel. Done 1,100kms now. Was surprised to find the 'negative' cover on the car battery missing only to find out that there is no cover for the negative battery connector. (compared and checked with the demo unit at the dealer's showroom) False alarm. Phew!

First service done at Advant (Puchong) and they took the time to locate a slight vibration in the roof light assembly. Thanks to their meticulous service (removed it and drove the car to detect the cause), and the vibration's gone for now.

Overall, enjoying the quietness, refinement and the stares. Some with their mouths open too.

However, sometimes when idling there is a slightly louder hum which comes and goes. Anyone experience that? and know what it is?

Mikmil1, did u change your default tyres to other brand?coz many ppl say kumho tyres sound very loud when driving.

Hi mikmil1 and hello to all new sonata owners,

I got my sonata std spec right 1 day before raya, and now already driven 4000+ KM. Did my 1st service in 2000KM cos was too busy to send my car for the 1st 1000KM service.

Here are some comments and problems i found out from my car:

1. Noise insulation is not very good as in most cases i can still hear vehicle noise from outside.
2. Road noise is the worst with the Hankook tyres
3. I experienced the same as mikmil1, intermittent hum noise from the engine when idling or moving slowly (eg: braking at the traffic light). infact, sometimes i felt the engine is having minor jerks when moving slowly. Similarly this is also an intermittent problems.
4. engine is a bit rough (quite noisy). In the morning when I start the engine for the 1st time I notice the RPM went up unusually (above 1.5 rpm). Have anyone facing the same?
5. when i open the door at the front passenger side, the feeling is like the door very loose as if the door is not properly closed.

i'm sending my car again to the service center at Bandar Tun Razak this Monday and hopefully they can help me to resolve the Hum noise problem and check on the front passenger door.

Despite all i mentioned above, i'm still okay with the car overall and still proud of driving it. smile.gif

Kennie1982,

I am on the stock hankook optimo tyres. The road noise is acceptable to me smile.gif

wkcheah,

I don't experience (1) and (5), while (2) road noise is at an acceptable level to me.
I also experience (4), the higher rpm in during cold starts in the morning. I think this should be normal as the engine is cold.
Let us know what the service centre's solution/explanation to the hum is.

Dear All,
I am heading to 1000km for the first service after more than 1 week driving the car..

1. 5. I also didn't experience that.
2. Can hear the road noise as for no 2 also.
3. I also experienced the same thing, i suspect it's due to the aircon fan, i tested to off the aircon while hearing the hum noise, it stop immediately.
4. I guess this is normal.. same to mine..

Additional
- Sometime , i can hear some tick tick sound after open the cover for the moonroof.

Overall, i love the car, just need to put more effort to wash it since it's in black.. haha

I did Sierra Glow on my Sonata YF today. I must say Chong and his guys are very pro and did quite a good job. My initial thoughts:

1. The touch feel of the coating is smooth clean without the oil smooth feeling that u normally get from wax.
2. Water beading from the coating is quite good and the beading is smaller compared to the typical water beading from oil based wax are larger.
3. As Sierra Glow don't compound clean the car down alot especially on new car; your car initial clear coat is very much intact and should last you a long time. The way the prepare the car is unlike the traditional detailer where they will compound your car surface alot to get the smooth finish and then apply the sealant/wax. Thus, Sierra Glow will still have the lemon peel look on the finish but your car clear coat will last longer whereelse the other coating/wax/sealant finish will have the glass reflective look but your clear coat will be compound down by alot margin and chances will be there is less clear coating left on your car. The above applies to new car only......... i think the older car will be compound down alot and the lemon peel finish will be gotta rid.
4. The inorganic based of the coating should be more dirt resistant compared to organic coating.
5. They also coat your car headlamp and rear lamp thus giving it the protection.

To answer why I choose Sierra Glow........ pricing and their 5 years warranty on the shine with the right care. I have done Meguire detailing on my other car where even though the shine is excellenct and the oil smooth feel is nice, it only last you for a few wash unless you do "Ultimate Quik Detailer" after every wash to give it back the shine and smooth feel. The long term cost outlay is very much more than Sierra Glow.... by alot of margin.

More updates after couple of weeks down the road on my comments on Sierra Glow.

Dear ricprom,
Please post some photos after the glow.. thanks

Hi all,

Have anyone did sound proof (SP) on the new sonata and consider doing the SP?

I'm considering to do it but will there be any impact on the warranty? I saw the threat from KL Auto, looks good

I think you'll be the first. I find that the wheel arch needs sound proofing the most. When I go through floods, I can hear the water gushing in the wheel arch. That may be the problem causing the tyre noise to intrude into the cabin when driving in dry weather.

Let us know how it goes biggrin.gif

wkcheah,

Refer my comments after a week driving.

1. Agreed with you but fine it okay. Might tell them during my 5k service. Still gathering info..
2. I am suspecting that as well...
3. minor jerks when moving slowly...yes
4. Yes..but i fine it is normal..i will normally let it run for 5 min before driving.
5. Yes..i do notice that..the back door is fine. I fing the front 2 doors might need to adjust.

Overall the car is good. As for the issue above, it can be rectify during our next service.

Pleasant driving for those got it...and for the rest....you won't regret.......
