Hi to All INNOVA Sifu and Owner,

Currently I drive an Altis 1.8G and am looking for a Japanese MPV below RM150K.

I went for a test drive on an INNOVA 2.0G ( Bxx9922 at Jalan 19/1 Section 19 ) and a Nissan Serena 2.0 Highway Star ( Jln Kemajuan Section 13 this afternoon. Since both showrooms are not too far away, and I like Toyota , so I test drove the Innova first , and then went straight to the Nissan showroom for the Serena. Both MVPs were tested on the same route from Jln Data Abu Bakar to Mont Kiara and made an U-turn back to the showrooms. I was very disappointed with the INNOVA 2.0G . I find Serena is a lot more comfortable to drive with a much quieter engine and better acceleration; third row seat is less bumpy ( my wife was at third row when I drove to Mont Kaira , and we swapped on our way back to showrooms)

INNOVA 2.0G costs about RM108 which is about RM30K cheaper than the Serena 2.0 Highway Star’s RM137K. ( or about RM20K cheaper if compared with Serena 2.0 Comfort ) . For the same price of RM137K , I could only get a recon 2003 or 2004 Estima Aeras. I prefer new and a 2009 Estima is above my budget sad.gif , so I acn only compare INNOVA and Serena smile.gif

Would you mind to share your experience with the INNOVA ?
Has any INNOVA owner ever test drove or considered a Serena ?
What make you decided to buy INNOVA?

Just wondering why there are so many INNOVA on the roads and what’s wrong with the Serena as I hardly see any 689.gif

Thanks in advance for your reply…. biggrin.gif

The innova will surely be bumpier due to its pick-up chasis which is based on the Hilux,...same goes to the Fortuner, where else the Serena is a true MPV type chasis.

My wife's Innova almost reaching 3 years in November. Still problem free. Changed new set of tyres to Michellin now. Find it softer and quieter ride compared to the Continental tyres which lasted 48K km.

Its not what you have...... its how you use it!!

Hey guy, i'm new comer for this autoworld...just register
just want to seek your advice:
I'm interested on Innova can anyone advice me which one is good either auto or manual:
take consideration as below:

1- use for family travel about 800km every 3 month( go back to kelantan from johor)
2- low maintainance and cost also..
3- travel with full loading ( once back to johor of coz my parents as to brings back a lot of things..itu and ini..)
4- did innova with rear wheel driving??how frequent to perform alignment for tyre....is it same as normal car..
5- as innova using timing chain , what is cost to maintain it...i'm using wira and normally every 80K km required to change timing belt and it's cost about $300-$400.
6- how about absorber/spring..sometime i'll bring loading with more than 300kg every time balik kampung( brings back jeans, beras siam and so on... smile.gif,

Below is my answer:

1. How many people in your family? Once 3 rows of seats are occupied by passengers, there is little room left for you to put luggages and goods.
2. The maintenance cost is quite low, not much different from Vios
3. Again it depends on nos. of passengers. If you only occupy 2 rows of seats, the luggage space is plenty
4. Yes, it is rear wheel drive. Alignment of tyre-no diff from normal sedan
5. the timing chain is maintenance free
6. 300Kg could be transported, provided the nos. of passenger is limitted to 5.

If you need to transport 7/8 person with lots of goods, your only choice is Hyundai Grand Starex.

manual save petrol n better power. but auto is easy to drive, use 1 hand n 1 leg only, can enjoy ice cream while driving...haha..
if your place jams alot like in kl, I recommend auto.

hi darthriex, i'm also new comer registered autoworld, but old timer for auto forum and toyota owner.
Last time, drove Unser LGX m '03 and traded in for new faced lifted innova '09 but still manual transmission.
1- choosing manual for both mpvs coz i. less maintainence compared to AT e.g. for MT 40k service cost rm470 AT est cost rm700.
2- also travel long journey from kota tinggi to kmn, trg but 1/2 ur way hometown, fuel cost about rm110 but still left 1/4 tank opun reach home village.
3- yes, innova is rear wheel drive, actually was unser upgraded model from 1.8 to 2.0, 8v to 16v and N/A engine to VVT-i
4- no maintinence cost for timing chain, just send to UMWT SC, they will inspect and adjust. my ex-unser chain the belting and cost around rm700 for every major service 40k, 80k and 120k
5- no hal, for traveling long distance, still smooth, powerful and no overheat.
6- made as passenger mpv if travel with 8 pax, not much space for luggage, u can 'susun tinggi' that things up to rear wndscreen, if u folded the last row only u can have a huge cabin for all stuff that mention.
7- 2.0 E manual cost below 100k, inst about 1k per month, but if u have more hi budget u can go for the full size mpv such as estima, hyundai starex, or stavic also 99k or our famous nazaria.
8- if u doesn't matter on using china's van brand, u can dare have jin bei era 14 seaters van or cherry commuter alsa 14 seater, but the china and korean@naza u'll faced the less trande in value that u will 'tepuk kepala' and continue untill it scraped.
9- innova have great promotion this nov dan dec such as low d/p rebate up to rm1.5k, or free aerokit, or low interest down to 1.68%. If u are interested be free to pm me.

livina = station wagon that thinks it is an MPV. the advantage is only lower ingress point.

You r right bro. tat why i choose innova.Depand on what u want. I always traveling with six person 5 adult and 1 kid. If i choose livina, insuffience space to carry luggage.

Assalammualaikum and good morning. My name is din from taiping. This year i plan to buy Toyota Innova. I just want ask any forumer who`s already used toyota innova about pro and cons toyota innova, What problem usually they faced for they Innova. The advantage and good experience about his/her innova. I hope anybody can help me to have review about Toyota Innova.

hello Din, you got yr Innova yet after all the feedback? here is my comment for all Innova users which i find no one has mentioned yet. it is about the brakes. i have a 5 mth old Innova. i discovered by chance when i nearly had an accident that when you suddenly slam the brakes in emergency (as in very quickly and hard), the brakes feels harder than usual to push in, meaning more effort is required to stop the car. this feeling i never had with my other cars before. now do a brake pumping test. start yr car, release yr handbrake (car on level ground and not moving) and pump yr pedal, at first slowly and then rapidly. you will find your pedal becoming harder to push in as you pump faster. anyone can explain this? this abnormality does not happen to my other cars. this probably explains why the brakes do not bite immediately when i slammed it. feels hard like the servo is not working. i suspect two possibilities. one is the servo is undersized OR the ABS device is faulty whereby a sudden slamming of the brake causes fluid congestion in the ABS which didnt have time to disperse the fluid into the brake lines after it. i tested another Innova. same problem. so my question is; why the extra extra effort to stop the car in an emergency? if an old woman was driving it, she would not have the strength to slam the brakes so hard to stop in time. even for me, i almost crashed. another question is; why does the brake pedal become harder to press when the brakes are being pumped rapidly? is there fluid congestion in the ABS that is causing this hardness? the brakelines have been bled. so it is not air lock in the system. it could be a design fault. can Innova owners try this and share their experience? remember, your engine must be on and handbrakes released. gear neutral or 'P' position. alternate your strokes; sometimes fast, sometimes slow and then fast again etc. when slow pumping, the pedal goes in easily but it behaves differenly when pumped fast. why? however, during normal driving and braking "normally", the car stops okay with normal effort on the pedal. but when you slam the brake very fast, the hardness is felt.
