It has been CONFIRMED, Malaysia 2012 Toyota Camry will have TOTALLY NEW engine variant and transmission.

So, if it's NOT so pressing, just wait for it instead of going for current Camry

MORE updates later!!

it is not a secret that UMW will have new powertrain and transmission every 2 generations...
they have been practising these decades ago..
just that the recent FL altis have broke the sequence due to the pressure from rivals smile_blush.gif

Everybody knows the present Camry DNA is not very much different from the previous generation even for the facelift. However for NEW 2012 model, it will impart some major changes on the INTERNALS. Even Malaysian variant will posses some advanced features (at least on paper).

P.S. It's worth a wait for someone on the look for Camry

It's public knowledge that the Camry will be CKDed in Malaysia in 2012. It's logical that it will be the new model. I'm planning to get a Camry, but cannot wait for 2 years. So, to you guys who is waiting for it, have fun in the new Camry when it comes in 2012.

The new powertrain for every 2 generations is actually more applicable for their passenger car category which usually have 5 - 7 yrs lifespan b4 a replacement model is arrived. For eg, AE101 7th gen (1991 - 1995, like mini Lexus one) and AE111 8th gen (1995 - 2001) Corolla, both are using same 1.6L 4A-GE engine, only differences is slight changes towards power and torque figure and curve (there's also 1.3L option but it was underpowered and very less demand). While for Camry, the 1st gen (1994 - 1997) and 2nd gen (1997 - 2002) are using the same 2.2L engine (only differences is there's a manual option for 1st gen Camry before it was totally phased out). Currently the Vios also follow this principle (both NCP42 and NCP93 model comes with same 1.5L 1NZ-FE with VVT-i engine), only there's 4 trim level (J, E, G, and TRD Sportivo spec) for NCP93 model and there's a manual option for lowest spec variant compared to 2 trim level (E & G spec) and auto only for previous NCP42 model.

Regarding to the new Altis having the new powertrain, even the previous Hilux offered with 2.5L turbodiesel (with both manual and auto, more powerful than 2.8L one) in 2003 (during facelift) together with 2.8L NA diesel (manual only) to compete with Mitsubishi L200 Storm and Ford Ranger (which was at that time offered with 2.5L turbodiesel engine and auto option).

If it fits your budget and requirements, you can just ahead to get the current Camry (provided you can't wait for 2 years), but i think better get the 2.4V version as it comes with 5-speed auto (2.0L variant comes with 4-speeder).
