Hi.
With current fuel prices threatening to soar and rumors of the Govt planning to cut subsidies, a local motorcycle manufacturer has gone ahead and made an all electric bike that will be road legal and has been tried and tested on Malaysian roads.
The bike should hit the market in the next month as it is pending some certification from JPJ (the local RTD).
The bike will not require service, petrol or any form of lubricants. The user (it's owner) should be able to make savings of up to myr 3,000 in 2 years.
The powerplant is said to be good for upto 500 cycles and can be replaced at a cost of approximately myr800 (@ todays prices. this should be availabale at much cheaper rates once there are more of them on the road and by the development of 3rd party batteries in coming times)
On the prototype, a full charge was said to take you for as far as 65kilometers. The bike has 2 modes and even comes with a reverse gear so those of you who want to install side cars, no problem.
Charging is made easy and you can plug into a normal wall socket for a complete recharge.
The best part about this motorcycle is that it looks no different from it's petrol counter part and you can get most parts from your regular bike shop in your very own town.
Can't wait for this as it opens a whole new possibilty to alternative fuel and transportation.

Hi Opositive,
Alternative fuel is 'opositive' idea.
Nice to hear but a load of bullshit.
In the year 2000, US automaker had prototype running on H2O feature in Top Gear
Japanese already featured Hydrogen engines applied on high performance bikes
A decade later, today in 2010, alternative engine are still no where to be seen.
Solar power, Hydrogen Engine, Electric Engine are all bullshit.
Even Malaysia add bullshit with LMG reported in The Star.
And The Star newspaper now hide/buried that article.
http://paultan.org/2...hose-your-dadi/
Obsolete internal combustion engine, NGV and hybrid are reality.
Reality, no one cares about environment.
Petrol prices are always 'expensive'.
Everyone just wants more money,
And that is the positive truth!
On a personal note, Good luck with your 2 mode electric bike.

Please speak for yourself only. Not everyone is like you. There are people who are concern over the environment and their own impact on it. And there are, gasp, people who are not money crazy or only care about self-gratification.
The technology for renewable energies for car is already here. However, there are many obstacles that limit their practicalities (and not bullshit, as you so crassly expressed). One major limitation is the battery. You can have solar power or electric power, but where are you going to store the excess energy? The batteries we have now cannot compete with fossil fuels: electric cars can typically go as far as 200 km only. Compare that with fossil fuel-powered car which can go over 400 km in a full tank. And it takes too long to recharge the battery (a few hours). Again, compare that to fuel tank which only takes only a few minutes to fill up.
And heard of General Motor's Tesla 100% electric car? It is super silent, can go up to 300 km in a full charge, and accelerate like a fossil fuel-powered sedan. Unfortunately, due to people such as yourself (who do not care about the environment and only want to make an obscene amount of money), canned the Tesla car. Its untimely death is scandalous and a hot topic which you can read over the internet.
Hydrogen powered cars are the best in terms of mileage and speed of refilling, but the problem is hydrogen fuel cells. They are still too expensive.
Nonetheless, we are making progress. And increasingly more companies are making hybrid cars, which I believe is a first step to, one day, a practical fully renewable car. Without making the first step, the journey doesn't start, does it?
One thing you must be clear is this: care for the environment is not just a hobby or the concern of environmentalist or hippes. Mess up the environment, and we all (rich, poor, fat, skinny, educated, uneducated, Malaysians, Americans, Arabs, Jews, young, old, animals, humans, plants) suffer because we are a part of the environment. As they say, "It's not like we have another home we can go to".
Chris.
