went to mid valley today and saw Tucson roadshow there which has one whilte (2.0 high spec) and black (2.0 low spec), damm, the white one looks very nice and sporty to me, these 2 cars also attracted so many people's attentions there...

I believe when the Sonata comes next month, any road show will attract thousands of eyes...

really shake my heart now to change my car to either Tucson or Sonata...

look like someone here is from hyundai .

pls don't try to push this as a " catalogue error " only . as i mentioned earlier , not only the catalogue but also the price list n training doc r saying the same thing . thus, it's very obvious that those sales had sold hundred of this cars based on what they learnt in the training for the past wk (or b4 this so call "error" been corrected in their website) ..whateven worse is as couple of the buyers from these hundreds had make a complaint call to their 1300 number 4 days ago n no one from the relevant department from hyundai/SD give a proper reply till now ..

i really doubt how they want to carry on the b'ness. even we treat this as a printing mistake (which i really doubt it is ) , someone from hyundai/SD should say sorry n find a resolution with these hundreds of early buyers . beside , they should show their respect n thankfulness to these early buyers as they r the one who make your products hot ..

keep quiet won's save u from your mistake but will definitely tarnish hyundai's image for long long time ..

i hope hyundai can see this n step in ... don't let your rep spoil your name which u had work so hard to achieve ..

i'm very worry that they might say printing mistake again on sunroof tomorrow n another printing mistake on others the day after .........n customer complain .. they keep quiet........

The actual show car has the sun roof so there is no chance of that mistake happening.

In any event, refunds are available to anyone who wishes to cancel their booking based on errors in the brochure.

Bro Kenso,

Did u ask how much is the trade in value of your Avante if you opt to take either the Sonata or Tucson?

Well, the thing is, the Avante is a company car so not up to me to trade in. Good question though .... maybe I`ll ask them on Monday when I visit the SC again to resolve my "odd screw rattling noise" problem.

Whoa, so much hype over a misprinted catalog. I went to the showroom in Glenmarie today (not intentional as I was sending my Avante for service) and managed to get a copy of the catalog that Informer has scanned and posted here. There was indeed errors noted in the catalogs but the SA clarified the errors. Furthermore, newer catalogs seems to have the errors ammended.

I guess owners who could not accept the fact that there is no power seat should just cancel their orders and get their refunds as I do not see this is a strong enough case to bring to court. The company has taken remedy action as soon as the errors are realised. If they just pretend like nothing has happened and continue to produce ads that promises a driver powered seat, then it's a different case.

Anyway, I had the opportunity to test drive the Tucson today! Just dropped by to point out some issues that were not done in my earlier service and noticed a blue Tucson parked outside. I asked my SA if I could take it out for a spin and he said ok. Yippee! Haven't tested any cars for a while now and was very curious to see what this new generation of Hyundai is all about (not to mention this car shares similar Theta II engine with the new Sonata, a car I am most interested to own someday).

The Blue Ice was driven to the front and my SA jumps out before inviting me to the "unpowered" driver's seat. Was told this was a basic model specially flown in from overseas for test drives ... yet it had semi leather seats. Great, more confusion on the specs. SA reconfirms that basic 2.0 does NOT have leather seats. Ok .... let's get this beauty moving. Seating position is higher than a sedan, of course but not as high as some other SUVs, I felt. The leather steering has the right amount of thickness to feel marvelous to hold. The greatest improvement I felt immediately is how weighted the steering is now. Compared to the Avante which is so light, u always get the feeling u're oversteering at each corner, the Tucson's steering is easy to turn yet provides good feedback to the driver. I can imagine driving this car with confidence, even around high speed tight corners.

The route we took had some good long stretches that allowed me to floor the throttle. The low end torque is sufficient to make the car lively but when u do some hard acceleration, I feel the 2.0 Theta II is somewhat lacking. The engine note sounds somewhat rough during hard acceleration but it could be that the engine is still relatively new or what my SA said about the Theta II engine is more performance tuned being true. The gear shifts are pretty seamless though and in all honesty if I`m not in any hurry, I think this would be a nice car to drive around. The suspension seems to be more comfort tuned and the car runs though potholes and bumps with ease ... parking at sidewalks as some 4x4 drivers are wont to do would not pose a problem for this car.

Halfway thought the test drive, I switched places with my colleague who tagged along and was seating behind. The rear seats are really comfortable ... so much better than my boss's new Volvo XC60. Legroom and headroom is excellent and if u opt for the high spec 2.0 or 2.4, u get another sunroof behind, making the car cabin feels much more airier. Comfort level in terms of suspension while seating behind is good.

After about 10 minutes of drive, we went back to the showroom ... it was just a short drive but I'm quite satisfied with what I have learnt about the car. I`ll still wait for my Sonata though ... just a matter of preference for sedans.

P.S: Hyundai is already taking orders for the Sonata ... booking fee is RM2k, expected waiting list is 3 months. Launch date due next month.

Part II - DRIVEN

Bro Kenso beat me to it. smile_big.gif
Anyway, nicely written. I just can't agree more.

I was thinking of what to write after my test-drives today, so here it goes...

Visited 3 Hyundai showrooms, but did only 2 test-drives.
The first one, roughly about 12pm (Hot sunny weather).
The other, around 4pm, and during slight rain and wet road.
Both were new, unregistered, 2.0L High specs.

My first driving impression is, it drives like a car, and doesn't feel like a SUV (SUV/4WD are somewhat a bit uncomfortable, wallow, bumpy ride feeling to drive unless it's of the high ends European brands or well established ones, eg. Harrier, Lexus RX, Murano etc.).
Very comfortable seats.
Nice air-con (I still complain about the air-con vents design close to the steering, and gives you cold fingers).
Nice suspension.
Good handling especially during cornering (Test-driven, looping around a small deserted round-about twice like MR. BEAN with medium acceleration).
Smooth gear change, evenly spaced.
No doubt, 6-speed auto gear change is a bit rapid at around 3,000-4,000RPM but I did test the manual shifter, and dragging way past 4,000RPM, and felt the full power & torque, but admitting it is a bit loud.
I was offered a 2.4L but SA later informed me, that the test unit was unavailable during at that particular time.
SA promise to let me try the 2.4L, during my next service visit later (in roughly 2-3 weeks time, if available).

Driven at 4pm, during rain, tire grip was OK, revving-up to 100km/hr on wet road and it felt compose and sturdy even running on slight water puddle.
The 12pm drive was more on the Tucson handling, where as, the 4pm, more on highway ride and performance.
I was informed by SM (Sales Manager), the rear multi-link with anti-roll bar does contribute to the said comfort and good ride handling.

Since, I didn't test-drive any other SUV like CRV, Ford Escape, etc., so, I won't compare any here.
Maybe can check tomorrow, call up my Honda SA friend to test-drive the CRV later.

Regarding the "mis-print" brochure and flyer error issue, if there are customers already booked the said SUV just because of the drivers electronic power seat, it's wiser if they complain it to their SA, or Hyundai Management themselves.
On my point of view, the (mono-tone) interior with hard dashboard and side panel plastic just doesn't connect to me (this is subjective) unlike the Avante, Sonata and Starex soft plastic panels.

People will buy the Tucson mainly because of it comfort ride, great value, 5 Year, 300,000Km Warranty and panoramic roof.
I can just imagine, driving it, with both roof covers open, at night, on a bright starry night...
... just amazing ...!

I could be the MD of Honda Msia or perhaps the MD of SD. Heck, I could even pass of as PM!

Look at how long I've been here and how many posts I've made. I do not have to prove anything.

You could be a unhappy competitor salesman worried about your rice bowl. 6 posts to date and none of them with solid proof to substantiate your claims. Yes, if you are unhappy, go and buy another car that brings you joy and happiness.

I rest my case.

Yes, it is not my decision to decide what car you want to buy but what is your hope in wanting to make a big fuss over the fact that SD had brochures with the "wrong specs". Sue them? Make them bring in 1 unit Tucson with the "missing" power driver's seat so that you get what your price list and brochure says? Hope that they give you a 2.4 for the price of the 2.0 high specs? Make everyone else think that SD is a con job? Make everyone think that your dealer is a fly-by-night operation?

Look, you can say and assume whatever you want, just stop assuming that I am working with SD. For the record, I do not work in the automotive industry.

In any willing buyer-willing seller arrangement, if the buyer is unhappy, they walk away with their money back. I know a lot of other car companies who will refund your booking with the deduction of a processing fee. SD is returning your money in full. What else is there to complain?

Does the fact that the power seat is missing change your entire opinion of the Tucson? If it does, wow...I hope all car makers in Malaysia consider offering power seats for all their cars.

So stop making assumptions about our identities. Thank you.

Chill guys.. dont get worked up over a simple matter like this.

On the other hand, as a consumer I would really like to see HSD be more careful in their marketing efforts next time, coz Hyundai is a good brand and we want great value for our hard earned $$.

If I had booked a unit after being informed of the power seat availability in a 2.0 hi spec and subsequently told that "it was an error", I might file a case with the Tribunal. Or I might not do so, given how much goodwill HSD has shown me and my spouse whenever we complained about the problems in our 2007 Matrix 1.6M.
