hello all French Gurus here,
hope i can get some advice here.

i have seriously thinking of getting a 2nd hand car, either 406 or C5. my aim is just to get a comfortable car for long distance driving. i'm currently driving a Renault Kangoo. i'm happy with it but hauling the big car with small cc engine for long driving is making me tired.

i have read topics on 406 and C5 in this forum, Peugeot club malaysia, motortrader and Citroen Club but seems like nobody has discussed about this 2 specific model extensively.

so, to those who are familiar with both 406 and C5, could you advice on the below subjects?

1. which one is more comfortable (NVH, comfort level)
2. ease of owning (less trouble, easy to find parts, easy fix, cheaper)

spending more time reading the forum seems to make my mind thinks that 405 is more comfortable and 406 (especialy from this guy Zulfa), and Xantia is much better than C5. sigh... am i right or wrong?

anyway, 2000-2002 pricing for both models are really tempting.

thanks guys

p.s - i found that mr. obeyone has both model. could you share something. i tried to post this question in your blog, twice, but it seems like my questions were deleted.

Comfortable? sure C5 lah. U knowlah C5 is using hydractive 3 suspension.
Ease of owning? Both car share the same EW10 engine and AL4 GB. So the problem is more or less same lah. Maybe C5 hv extra cost on suspension maintenance. So far my C5 suspension does not give much problem.I only replaced one rear strut, height corrector and front LDS overflow tube.

Supermag,
Need a 406 owner to confirm abt the GB.
If not AL4 then what GB it use? 4HP20 ka?

To improve ATF cooling, some AL4 user install aftermarket oil cooler.

thanks guys.

currently '02 C5 cost about RM35 in the market. any hints of what i should look for in buying used C5? eventhough i have been using French car for 8 years now (Renault), i absolutely have no idea of how's Citroen maintenance look likes.

TQ

Good topic...as I am planning to get a 406. Either a 406 or a Xsara if I just want a small CC car (as long it's auto transmission).

Seen quite a few units advertised in Mudah. 1997 going for about RM15K or less.
but more keen in getting the 2000 models.

My mechanic bought a 406 from a dealer.....quite a good deal. No problem with the car, he said.
Just need more TLC on the gearbox.

frankly speaking,
from the look of the car, i prefer 406, because to me it, it looks handsome and energised. C5 has this `senior' and 'bussinessman' look. but i was told that C5 ride comfort is much better (i personally have no ieda of this since i've never ride in any one of them). i was also told by the local pug/Cit mechanic in my hometown here (melaka) that C5 would cost more than the 406.

so, i am kind of, not which way to go now..

Maintaining a C5 will definitely costs more than a 406 due to its suspension system.

I just want to share my experience about C5 and EW10J engine.
There was a big gap between cam belt cover and crankshaft pulley.
Anything can easily go between the gap and straight into the cam belt.
This incident happend to my C5. The alternator/air cond belt was cracked with few strands went inside the cam belt (through the gap) and causing the cam belt jumped out few teeth. All valves was bent and u know lah what happen next.
Pokai lah this.
