This article is really eye opening if not mind opening as well...to think that Perodua is making parts for Pr0ton??? Wow!
For the Myvi, Perodua actually sent a team of engineers to Japan where they worked together with Daihatsu and Toyota as equal partners. While we don't know the exact dynamics of the working team, we can safely assume that Perodua had an important say on how things went as well. At the press launch, Perodua were saying that it was the same story with the Alza.
This arrangement has led to people believing that Perodua does nothing more than rebadging Toyotas and Daihatsus for the Malaysian market. Personally, my view is as long as they come up with the products that Malaysians need and want, it doesn't quite matter to me. In any case, the Alza's hitting the market with 90% local content.

Personally I don't care who makes the Car and where the parts come from (exception for made in PRC), as long as it is realiable. However, in the case of P2 or even with P1, its a bit emotional and sometimes, plain BS.
The question to ask is can P2 come out with a car without Daihatsu tech / expertise and the answer is a plain NO. So, please don't try to BS ppl by saying that its a Malaysian developed car with 90% local content. Just say that its a rebadged Daihatsu, be honest about it. In the world of tech, we all can easily see through all the mumbo-jumbo.
But hey, like I said, if its a good car who care whether a Muslim, Jew, Buddhist or Sceintology company made it right?

Perodua will starting delivering the Alza Advanced Version this coming weekend. The first five customers, who booked their cars since Nov/Dec 2009, collected their cars today at a small ceremony at the Perodua B&P hub at USJ.
